ACAD 2012 continues to fail installation. I have installed two separate DirectX updates and Internet Explorer 8. This computer is running Windows XP (32 bit) w/ service pack 3. I've included the installation error log below. How can I get ACAD 2012 loaded on this computer? Thanks!

Notta!!
Nothing is working!
What the ???
Mark,
Attached are two renamed registry files. Rename them to have a .REG at the end instead of .TXT.
Double-click the WIPolicyElevatedON.reg file to enable elevated permissions for the Windows Installer.
Run the System File Checker:
Try to install AutoCAD. Be sure to right-click the setup.exe and choose "Run as Administrator."
Assuming that it installs successfully, launch AutoCAD. Be sure to right-click it and choose "Run as administrator." Exit AutoCAD after it has loaded.
Double-click the WIPolicyElevatedOFF.reg file to disable elevated permissions for the Windows Installer.
Let me know if this works.
I will try this this evening.
The software is on a usb memory stick from Autodesk.
Should I copy it to my hard drive as several people have suggested ?
Thanks Bryce,
Mark
That's a good start. Make sure you have admin rights, UAC is off, anti-virus is disabled.
Well Bryce, regrettably It did not work?
So where do we go from here?
This is a new PC I'm doing this on. Only 1 month old.
To the best of my knowledge it's up to date on updates from Microsoft.
Bring it on.
Thanks
Hi Mark,
Try running the acad.msi installer. It's in the installation folder under \x64\acad\acad.msi. This will bypass the prerequisites check that the setup.exe does and install only AutoCAD. I'd apply that registry file first to elevate the Windows Installer permissions. If the acad.msi works, then there must something wrong with your Windows 7 in reference to either .NET Framework 4 or Visual C++. Additionally, if AutoCAD installs successfully this way, it still might have problems running because of something being wrong with these system components. It's worth a try though.
You might also try this while logged in under the local Administrator account. If you haven't enabled this yet (although I think you have), here is a link on how to do it:
I can post links for downloading .NET and Visual C++ if you want to try reinstalling those too.
O.K. Bryce, I woill rtry these suggestions.
And go ahead & post links for the .NET Framework 4 or Visual C++.
I truely appreciate your persistance in getting me straightened out.
I'll let you know how it turns out.
I will be doing this this early evening and post my resutls later tonight.
Will I need to transfer my license before I leave work today to enable the program on my machine at home?
Or will it let me run it without temporarily?
Thanks again.
Mark
If you haven't used the trial on your system before, you can definitely do that. You do have two activations per serial number, so you may be able to just activate and be all set. The License Transfer Utility is meant as a permanent thing. It's not designed for being able to move your license from machine to machine, over and over, but you can give it a try if need be.
Here are the download links for .NET and Visual C++. You'll need both x86 and x64 versions of Visual C++ on a 64-bit system. Be sure to right-click these installers and choose "Run as administrator" to start them.
.NET Framework 4.0

I updated NET Framework & Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable (x64) & Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable (x86)
But it still didn't install?
Tried the acad.msi. when I tried to run it, it came up saying a file not found. don't remember which one.
So I did all (900) tasks to uninstall & remove through the regedit etc... & one file was left that I could not remove.
AcSignCore16.dll So I attemped to install ONLY Autocad 2012 without all the rest of the list Through the full blown Setup . And it worked!!
So I will attampt to run acad first then try to add for example "Structural Detailing"
Look at the screen shot attached & you'll see an error under the "PLANT 3D 2012"
This must be the problem?
Thanks,
Mark
"Structural Detailing" did install so my guess is there is a problem when trying to install the Plant 3D
Database, Project Manager, ?? something that's in this portion of the software..
AutoDesk, What GURU can look into this issue & find my problem?
Thank you for all your assistance Bryce.
Mark
Mark,
Go into your user temp folder and clear out all the Autodesk installation logs (or save a backup of them if you like), then try to install Plant 3D again. Then zip up the install logs for it and attach them to this thread. I'll see if I can decipher what might be going wrong.
Bryce, here is the file to look at. I am now trying the instructions posted by Dwayne Poot.
Thanks,
Mark
Sorry here you go.
Thanks for the log file Mark! I was hoping for two log files. This one just shows a 1603 error for Plant 3D. The other one that is supposed to be created along with it usually has more details.
Go ahead and attach the log file to your other thread. I'll let Dwayne take care of you over there, since someone else actually started this thread.
Hey Bryce,
Haven't heard from Dwayne in a week.
Are we still trying to find out what's wrong?
Thanks,
Mark
