64-bit Max does not start error Autodesk component has stopped working

I have installed max 2011 64-32 bit

the 32-bit version will open

the 64-bit will not open, comes up with an error
"Autodesk component has stopped working"

I still have max 2009 64-bit installed, do I need to uninstalll max 2009 64-bit?
