3ds Max .NET framwork problem

"3ds Max has detected that the required .NET framework version is not properly installled"

1. i uninstalled 3ds Max
2. i ran Java update
3. i manually installed lates version of .net framework from Microsofts pages
4. i installed 3ds Max
5. i ran 3ds Max, and got the message...

"3ds Max has detected that the required .NET framework version is not properly installled"

I am a student at NITH in Norway and am using the student version. I depend on having 3ds Max available on my Lapptop when im not at school and need to work.
A fix to this problem would be much appreciated.

Use the .NET Framework Cleanup Tool.

The 3ds Max installer architecture is running a .NET 3.5 installer and returning any messaging that the .NET installer is returning. Try installing .NET 3.5 directly from Microsoft or from the DVD Download (<<MEDIA>>\support\dotnetfx\dotnetfx35.exe). If the .Net 3.5 install is successful try the 3ds Max installer again. If the .NET 3.5 install fails you will need to troubleshoot and resolve the problems with .NET.

I installed .NET framework 3.5 from Microsofts pages.

Then i unninstalled 3DsMAX.

Restarted computer.

Installed 3DsMAX again

Same message, ".NET framework not propperly installed..."

Something i noticed this time around was that the First thing 3DsMAX installed, was the .NET framework 3.5

But it apparently fails, leaving a red 'X' mark next to it.

All other parts of the installation goes just fine, leaving a green 'V' next to them ( 3DsMAX 32bit, 64bit, Components )

Is it 3DsMAX which fails to install the .NET framework 3.5?

To me it appears that way, since it leves a red 'X' next to it durring its installation step

How can i find out whats wrong? How can i fix this?

Try this:

     1. Use the .NET Cleanup Utility

     2. Install .NET 3.5

     3. Install 3ds Max

1.uninstalled 3ds

2.Ran .NET cleanup

( restarted )

3. Installed .NET 3.5

4. installed 3ds

😞 no luck, same message

Durring the installation, the red X ( indicating a failed installation ) still popped up next to the .NET Framework step. What does this mean?

Suggestions?

I have an assignemt due 1 week from days date, and it would be cool to get my 3ds student version up and working at least a coupple of days beforehand.

It means that something is wrong with .NET or your operating system. The .NET installer is returning information that something is wrong. You will need to work out the .NET or operating system problem first. You may need to get your IT staff, a computer vendors support technician, or an IT service company involved to fix this.

I am sorry to differ with you.Running Vista 32 bit Home Premeium.  I have two other programs that utilize framework 3.5. I did all your little tips and get this -

I installed .NET framework 3.5 from Microsofts pages.

Then i unninstalled 3DsMAX 2011

Restarted computer.

Installed 3DsMAX again

Same message, ".NET framework not propperly installed..."

Ran cleanup utility

Re-installed framwork 3.5 2011

Uninstalled 3DsMAX

Checked other two programs requiring framework 3.5 - they run fine

Re-install 3dsMax 2011

Start  3ds Max 2011

AND STILL GET THIS MESSAGE -      ".NET framework not propperly installed..."

So explain to me jsut how other two programs that need frameword 3.5 to run work ok, and your program does not !!!!

Seems tome that with all the issues you have there are problems on YOUR end not ours. Not everybody have a screaming Geek computer to make this work. I am sad to say that after more than 15 hours and various installs and uninstalls this program does not work or install properly on three different computers.

Hello,

I get the same error message here when launching 3ds Max 2012 on Windows 7 Professional 64 bit. The system has been installed cleanly about three weeks ago, and, what's really strange, I did not change anything before the error message started to appear. The last update affecting the .NET framework was about two weeks ago via Windows Update and has installed .NET version 4. After that, 3ds Max ran fine for about two weeks, and since yesterday, it can't be launched anymore.

Currently, I am in a job hurry, so I have not had the time yet to try all the uninstalling, re-installing and cleanup-suggestions above. I'm using 3ds Max now on an old Win XP backup partition to finish my jobs. I will try all that stuff when there is a bit more time, but it's really strange that such things happen on a (nearly) freshly-installed Windows 7 machine.

I will let you know what I do and what works.

Johannes Eichberger

Hello again,

I took some time now to try all the uninstalling and re-installing suggestions. Here is my whole story:

about 3 weeks BEFORE the error appeared:

- installed Windows 7 Professional 64-bit on a blank hard disk

- installed only the software I need for work (E-Mail client, Antivirus, FTP-client, VLC and so on)

- installed every update offered by Windows Update

- installed 3ds Max 2012 64-bit from CD

- downloaded and installed every hotfix and service pack found on the Autodesk website

- Max ran fine for about 3 weeks

Suddenly, the strange error message appeared:

"3ds Max has detected that the required .NET Framework version is not properly installed. The installed .NET Framework must be updated for the product to run. Please uninstall any pre-release versions of the .NET Framework, and either reinstall the application, or visit windowsupdate.com."

Then I tried the following steps:

- launched Windows Update, but it told me that my system is up to date

- noticed that the last update was a few days ago, but Max ran fine the last days

- launched system preferences -> uninstall programs, and uninstalled everything related to .NET
- downloaded and launched the .NET Framework Cleanup Tool from a link in a link in DouglasLauritsen's link
- rebooted
- tried to launch 3ds Max (just out of curiosity) - nothing happened, even no error message appeared
- launched Windows Update and re-installed everything related to .NET, several reboots in-between
- repeated until Windows Update told me that my system is up to date
- rebooted again
- launched 3ds Max - same error message: "...required .NET Framework version is not properly installed..."
- uninstalled 3ds Max, rebooted again
- installed 3ds Max 2012 64-bit from CD
- during installation, 3 popups came up:
    1. (translation, see screenshot) The Windows Installer Service is not available. Possibly, another application is being installed. Quit all running installations, or reboot the Computer, and launch setup again.
    2. Windows Update bubble appeared in the lower right corner, telling me that there are .NET updates (but I thought, I had everything installed?!?)
    3. (translation, see screenshot) Unhandled exception in the application. [...] The File or Assebly "System.Core, Version=3.5.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089" or a dependency was not found. [...]
- but the installation finished
- launched 3ds Max - same error message: "...required .NET Framework version is not properly installed..."
- launched Windows Update and installed the three .NET updates that the bubble has told me
- rebooted again, launched 3ds Max - same error message: "...required .NET Framework version is not properly installed..."

- checked Windows Update again, everything is up to date

What else can I try?!? I only can use 3ds Max from an old XP backup partition, but this can't be the only solution. And why does that all happen on a freshly installed machine?

Johannes Eichberger

Try to run 3ds max as an administrator.
