3ds Max 2014 (and possibly earlier) - LMU.exe crash on startup - cause found!

Ok... I've been struggling with a fresh install of Windows 7 and a fresh install of 3ds Max 2014.  I literally started again twice and as soon as I start max it crashes.  I've found the reason why and a temporary fix but I think there needs to be some work by autodesk to fix the problem properly....

When crashing I get the error message:

I found a website that suggested using msconfig to try to diagnose the problem and after about 10 reboots I've found that if you disable the 'Windows Management Instrumentation' service, 3ds Max will start without issue.  What issues this has on the rest of the computer I don't know.  In the notes for the service it says that most windows software will not function properly (not great!)

Hi,

Right-click My computer

Click "Administration" or "Computer administration"

Go to "Services and Programmes" and then click Services

then find the Windows Management Instrumentation and disable it.

My windows is in Danish, so names might be different on your machine.

I'm facing the same problem.

I Installed a fresh windows and 3dsmax design 2014 in 2 workstations..... in 1st ws...it's OK

In the second ws (same configuration, only the video card is different.), when I'll open, appear this APPCRASH.

So I've disable 'Windows Management Instrumentation' service, and it's worked perfectly!!!

Thank you!!!!!
