3ds max 2012 Install Error 1606

I'm a college professor and I need to install an older version of 3ds max, in this case, 3ds max 2012. I am having issues with installing it on Windows 8.1.

"Error 1606. Could not access network location Path" keeps popping up! It is infuriating!
I tried this solution offered here in the forums but to no avail. Please help!

Hi and welcome to the forums.

I'm not sure that 2012 is certified for Windows 8.1... http://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/3ds-max/troubleshooting/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/System-...

Are you able to upload the log file?

You could try creating a new Windows User profile with UAC, Firewall, antivirus all off. Don't forget to include yourself as administrator and run the install as Administrator.

Welcome to the community, @USCSS_Doria_Nox!

It's possible that you're receiving this error because Autodesk 3ds Max 2012 isn't compatible with Windows 8.1. Please see the system requirements for further details. Is there any chance you have a Windows 7 machine that you can work on?

Thanks for the reply. I got it installed on Windows 8.1 by changing the application's Compmbatabilty Mode to Windows 7 and ran it as Admin.....3ds max 2012 installed correctly and it works great!

Smiley Very Happy

Thanks both of you for the suggestions.

I am having the same error with 2012 and this solution did not work for me. Are there other solutions to this problem? I tried changing compatability, running as admin and changing my file directories but nothing seems to work. Any suggestions?
