2008 32/64 bit installation

We have the installation disks for the 32 bit AutoCAD 2008 edition, but haven't managed to get it to install on newer computers. I've read that 2008 came with both the 32 and 64 bit installation disks. I there anyway to get a copy of the 64 bit version and still use the license from the 32 bit disks that we have?

I believe Darren is right.  Regardless, licensing will not matter if you are using 32-bit or 64-bit. It is all the same.  You should be able to license the product on 64-bit without issue, assuming you install as 64-bit.

Keep in mind, though, that AutoCAD 2008 is only supported on Windows Vista and XP.  It is not supported on Windows 7/8.

Thanks.

Thanks for the help, but this set has two disks, disk 1 of 2 and 2 of 2. Nowhere did I find any other options of installing AutoCAD 2008 in either 32 or 64 bit. Don't have the disks here to double check either.

QuentinChapman,

Hello. I did some searching and the 64 bit programs did not start to release until the 2009 versions and for those versions, it was only in a limited amount of products.

Thank you for taking part in our community!

Thanks for the help everyone, guess I'll tell them to buy a 32 bit machine.

dembkod IS TOTALLY WRONG!  The AutoCAD 2008 installation DVD contains full versions of AutoCAD in 32-bit and 64-bit modes, in x86 and x64 folders.  I have installed this on both 32-bit and 64-bit machines, and it correctly chooses the right version to install.  On 64-bit computers, AutoCAD 2008 installs to the Program Files directory, not the Program Files (x86) directory.  Also, if you go to the Service Packs and Downloads section of Autodesk's web site, you will find 32-bit and 64-bit versions of every service pack and hotfix for downloading.  You got 2 disks and only the 32-bit version because someone requested CD media instead of DVD, probably because of not having DVD drives in the computers back in the day.  You just need to get a copy of the AutoCAD 2008 DVD media.  DON'T waste your time and money with a 32-bit machine and its 4 Gb memory limitation.  You will be much happier with AutoCAD on a 64-bit machine with 8 Gb of memory or more.  Hard to believe Autodesk product support would pass along such poor misinformation.
