2002 Upgrade

Okay. There is talk about upgrading from 2000i to 2002. 2000i is currently on a network liscence (10 seats). If I upgrade these 10 seats, will I need to upgrade the liscence manager as well? Basically, on our quote, is the cost for the 10 seat upgrade and an additional cost for a 10 seat Network Licensce Activation.

Hi,

the cost of the Licensemanager is included in the upgradeprice. You will
have to install a new License manager but as I sayd it will not cost extra.

Hi,

The network license manager has changed from Elan based technology, for AutoCAD 2000i, to FLEXlm,
for AutoCAD 2002. Therefore you will need to install a new license manager.

Does this help?

Is there a cost involved for the new LM? It just doesn't make sense to me that if I already own a LM for 2000i and I am paying to upgrade the 10 seats to 2002, that I have to pay an additional 10 seat Network Licensce Manager (3950.00). If it is the case where I have to pay, why couldn't I just drop the LM all together and have 10 standalone seats?

Hi,

This is probably something best to discuss with your local Reseller, as costs may vary depending on
which country you are buying in. As far as I am aware, there is no additional cost to the normal
upgrade if you are upgrading a network version, but you still ought to check.

I found out a little bit of information. It appears, effective July 1st, 2002, that any new licensces will have an additional charge applied for them to be networked (cost of seat plus 15%). For more information regarding the Network Licensce Activation, I found the .pdf under the common asked question for 2002 upgrade (licensce and obligations) web page.

Smmason:

You should NOT have to pay for the network license activation. From the new
policy pdf file:

Will network license upgrade, crossgrade, and subscription prices increase
as part of this new policy as well?

Answer: NO
