Hi,
When I launch my Softimage 2014 SP2, I get this error:
"---------------------------
Autodesk® Softimage®
---------------------------
Error: there is no interactive network license available to run Softimage.
Would you like to run in Standalone mode?
---------------------------
Yes No
---------------------------"
I found that I could run LMTOOLS, but it doesn't specify on which system I need to run this... Is it on the system where I am running Softimage from or my license server?
Thanks,
Rene
Hi there,
I am having the same issue as well, Only I don't know where the LMTOOLS are.
I was using xsi 2012 since 2011 and it worked fine up until x-mas eve. I tried unstalling, restalling, and even upgrading to 2014 and it's not working. I'm half way through my final semester and I need to get this up and running asap. I've lost a weeks worth of work on my vaca. I've tried all the suggested methods and nothing has worked thus far.
Please please please help.
You don't say, but I assume you have a Standalone license, not a Network license.
What happens when you click Yes to run in Standalone mode (I think I know from Twitter, but I'd like to confirm that).
Is SILicMethod still set to Standalone? To find out, open a Softimage command prompt and run this command: set SI
What, if anything, is logged in the %TEMP%\SoftimageLicense.log problem?
I suspect it's either a problem with your ProductInformation.pit or your standalone license is "corrupted" somehow.
Good morning,
Yes I have a standalone
A grey window opens up as if it's trying to start but stay grey.Eventually it shuts itself down and says failed to save scene. If I try to open a second window, I'll get the error message of "there is no interactive license available to run softimage 2012 or 2014. WOuld you like to run in stand alone mode?" If I click yes I get the same result of a grey window opening up.
I did the set SI but got the same result.
Here's what is in the license log.

What is the solution in either case?
I did uninstall and reinstall so we are working from the begining. Please advise what steps I should take next.
Thank you for your help I really appreciate it. Hopefully we can resolve the issue.

Hi
> A grey window opens up as if it's trying to start but stay grey
Is there a title bar on this window? I'm assuming this window is the Softimage application, so this looks like a start crash. For now, I would ignore the license error on the second startup attempt, because is probably related to the initial startup crash.
Still, I would check SoftimageLicense.log after the first startup attempt, to be sure there isn't some licensing error happening.
You may also want to open a Softimage, command prompt and set FLEXLM_DIAGNOSTICS=3, and then start XSI.exe from the command line.
usa.autodesk.com/getdoc/id=TS14092874
Then, do the basic troubleshooting for startup crashes:
http://xsisupport.com/2013/11/26/troubleshooting-101-startup-crashes/
Do the runonce and reset preferences steps to make sure you have a default environment.
Then the display driver test and the xsibatch test, which may help us narrow down the cause of the problem.
Thanks
Steve
Thank you for responding
Yes the grey window is the XSI start up window. It looks it's going to start but stays stuck as a grey window. The toolbar does show up but I'm unable to select anything.
I'm unable to run the FLEXLM_DIAGNOSTICS=3 in the prompt as I get an error message
C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Softimage 2014\Application\bin>xsi
C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Softimage 2014\Application\bin>FLEXLM_DIAGNOSTICS=3
'FLEXLM_DIAGNOSTICS' is not recognized as an internal or external command,
operable program or batch file.
I ran the runonce and preference reset both unsuccesful. The xsibatch test displayed the desired end result but softimage was still not functioning properly.
I was unable to disply driver test as I'm unable to select anything on the xsi "grey" window
I did run the monitor process and something interesting happen. softimage 2014 window actually displayed. I closed down the window to restart it and make sure the issue was resolved but it did not.
I'm attaching the log file from the batch test and the process monitor.
Please continue to advise
FLEXLM_DIAGNOSTICS is an environment variable.
To set it, run this command in a Softimage command prompt:
set FLEXLM_DIAGNOSTICS=3
Then start XSI.exe from that same command prompt.
For the "display driver test", you edit a text file (Default.xsily) and change the default layout to hide the four OpenGL viewports.
http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/ps/dl/item?siteID=123112&id=14691242&linkID=12544120
If Softimage starts up normally after that, then that means the problem is the display driver for the graphic card.
A Process Monitor log for a successful Softimage startup probably won't show any problems. It might, but probably not.
The file was there this monring and I attempted to edit it, the file disappeared. I've tried to reinstall the software and it doesn't show up.I tried relaoding 2012 and it's also not there.
Here's the latest and I'm not sure at this point if we're any closer to get the issues resolved but I think we're making progress. lol
I down loaded the 2012 sp1 version and the xsi window, after several minutes, came up. I can now see the 4 viewports but I can't do anything on the window. The moment I try to click on anything, it freezes up and doesn't respond.

The files are still too big zipped. I'm going to load them onto the forum

Remarks:
- Add a new inbound or outbound rule to the firewall policy.
- Rule name should be unique and cannot be "all".
- If a remote computer or user group is specified, security must be
authenticate, authenc, authdynenc, or authnoencap.
- Setting security to authdynenc allows systems to dynamically
negotiate the use of encryption for traffic that matches
a given Windows Firewall rule. Encryption is negotiated based on
existing connection security rule properties. This option
enables the ability of a machine to accept the first TCP
or UDP packet of an inbound IPsec connection as long as
it is secured, but not encrypted, using IPsec.
Once the first packet is processed, the server will
re-negotiate the connection and upgrade it so that
all subsequent communications are fully encrypted.
- If action=bypass, the remote computer group must be specified when dir=i
n.
- If service=any, the rule applies only to services.
- ICMP type or code can be "any".
- Edge can only be specified for inbound rules.
- AuthEnc and authnoencap cannot be used together.
- Authdynenc is valid only when dir=in.
- When authnoencap is set, the security=authenticate option becomes an
optional parameter.
Examples:
Add an inbound rule with no encapsulation security for messenger.exe:
netsh advfirewall firewall add rule name="allow messenger"
dir=in program="c:\programfiles\messenger\msmsgs.exe"
security=authnoencap action=allow
Add an outbound rule for port 80:
netsh advfirewall firewall add rule name="allow80"
protocol=TCP dir=out localport=80 action=block
Add an inbound rule requiring security and encryption
for TCP port 80 traffic:
netsh advfirewall firewall add rule
name="Require Encryption for Inbound TCP/80"
protocol=TCP dir=in localport=80 security=authdynenc
action=allow
Add an inbound rule for messenger.exe and require security
netsh advfirewall firewall add rule name="allow messenger"
dir=in program="c:\program files\messenger\msmsgs.exe"
security=authenticate action=allow
Add an authenticated firewall bypass rule for group
acmedomain\scanners identified by a SDDL string:
netsh advfirewall firewall add rule name="allow scanners"
dir=in rmtcomputergrp=<SDDL string> action=bypass
security=authenticate
Add an outbound allow rule for local ports 5000-5010 for udp-

Upload the Process Monitor log somewhere (Dropbox?)
You can filter the log down to just the activity of XSI.exe.
http://screencast.com/t/drqJCXQNZSr
Save a version of the log with just the Process and Thread activity.
http://screencast.com/t/Ckwaw2jI4
That will be a much smaller log file.
If Softimage used to work, and now doesn't, then something on your machine changed. A graphic card update? Windows update? New software?
I will see if I can load that at tonight.
Meanwhile here are some screen shots
