Maya Licensing

Me and my friends are using the student version of Maya to make models for a game. If we then buy the full version, load our models into the full version, and then export them, can we use those models for a commercial game?

Hi Henry,

Anything that was produced using the student version can't be used for commercial purposes, even if you have already purchased a commercial license and would only export the models to it. You will need to rebuild the old models in the commercial license you purchased so you could use them for commercial purposes.

Here are additional links for your reference:

Thanks,

Jeffrey,

I have a followup question : can you be specific in what you mean by "rebuild the old models in the commercial license you purchased"?

Meaning - you would need to recreate those models in the commercial version (not import scene created with the Student License).
