I have a Maya 2015 Educational License on a Windows 7 OS. As soon as Maya opens up and attempts to open the default new scene it brings up a fatal error and crashes. This happened one day and I have no idea what might have changed. I have tried renaming the preference folder and creating a default, I have tried the inserting "MAYA_DISABLE_CIP=1" into the Maya.env file, I have uninstalled and reinstalled, I have updated to SP2, and I have been scouring the internet for a solution to no avail. At the moment I have no clue what else to do. Maya 2014 works still but it is quite disappointing that I cannot use 2015 any longer on this computer until I can find a solution. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
same here, maya 2015 sp2, windows 8.1, I'm sure it worked before, re-installed, updated the latest nvidia drivers (gtx 770m).
I have the migration version from softimage to maya so I don't have 2014, softimage is working fine...
Same problem here,
I searched the web and this kind of problem seems to show up now and then with versions of maya since 6.5 or so.
As some people suggest I did:
Reinstalled maya,
I tried the newest and oldest nvidia drivers,
MAYA_DISABLE_CIP set to 1 in user variables,
Starting up from the commandline without plugin autoload,
Nothing works, it worked a month ago but since then I didn't use maya, only softimage.
Now I want to test Maya it suddenly crashes.
asus ROG laptop
windows 8.1
16GB ram
3D vision screen
GTX 770m
Nvidia drivers tested:327.23(newest) 337.88(oldest)
Yea, I cant seem find any help on the issue unfortunately. It's very discouraging that I cannot use it anymore. I was looking forward to BiFrost.
How do I get the stack trace or CER number? There is a python27.dll in the system 32 directory, do I delete it?
Thank you for these suggestions by the way.
I'm assuming that 64bit Python 2.7 was installed in C:\Python27 if so move the python27.dll file from the C:\Windows\system32 directory to C:\Python27 along side of the python.exe file that is located there
for my local machines, I tend to install the 32bit Python so less chance of DLL version conflicts with Maya
for CER, that is the Customer Error Reporting dialog that comes up when an error occurs. its not perfect and if the crash happens before Maya is initialized it may not come up. - the Web thank you page that comes up when the CER is submitted has the CER_XXXXXXX in the title info
if the CER dialog doesn't come up, then its a bit harder, if a Microsoft dialog that comes up, ie pausing Maya before it closes, if one has Dev Studio or other debugger installed on the system then one can attach to the maya.exe process and get a function level stack trace of where Maya is
I moved the python27.dll file to the C:\Python27 location you specified, Maya unfortunately still crashes, but I was able to get the CER #: CER_99606780
Now that I have moved that Python dll should I still install the 32bit python?
maybe, ... if uninstalling the current version I would move the file back to its original location
the crash is happening thru a stack of Python calls, when loading Xgen plugin xgenToolkit.mll
its possible that is python, pyside related, are you loading any local plugins ?, do you have anything in your PATH that may be picking up libraries from else where ?
Maya 2015 is working! it must have been the Python causing an issue. I moved the python27.dll back and uninstalled Python 27 and tried starting Maya 2015 and now it is working. I will see about downloading the 32 bit version and check if that causes an issue or not, but at least it is working and I know the source of it. Thank you very much for your help warnold, it is very much appreciated.
I'm having this issue on a Macbook Pro. How do I fix this?

i dont have the python.dll file is could that be the reason why my maya crashes?
The same problem with Maya 2016 Extension 2 SP1. Uninstalled Python 2.7 and everything working now
Does someone Know what is the problem of this system? (Mr./Ms. Developer, Can you solve the problem of this one?)

Can you check your driver version of your Intel graphics card... It must be this version 15.36.28.4332 or newer.
Also others have had success in create a system variable called MAYA_DISABLE_CIP here in the Windows Control Panel

Did this resolve your issue? Please accept it "As a Solution" so others may benefit from it.
the crash stack is placing the issue on the Intel embedded graphics driver. Maya requires a minimum version/support of OpenGL for certain functionality in this case the embedded GPU does not provide that.
if there is an option to use a supported discrete GPU (Nvidia or AMD) would be one path to follow
the other path to try would be using DirectX instead of OpenGL viewports. In the preferences one can set the display type to use. DirectX is Windows only option.
(I have a two problem in maya first i cannot move/rotate/scale the object using the manipulator and second maya crash when i did something) I just need to disable the GPU device in device manager and it work! but i cannot use the GPU to render the frame of my project.
WHAT DO YOU MEAN "the other path to try would be using DirectX instead of OpenGL viewports. In the preferences one can set the display type to use. DirectX is Windows only option."
How to do it step by step?
