Joint/bone bug? (Not displaying correctly)

I have seen others who have run into this problem as well, but have not found a solution for it. The joints are not displaying the bones correctly-they are not connecting. This happens whenever I create joints. I make sure that I am creating them in orthographic view, I reset the joint tool, I have tried deleting the prefs folder, and checked the draw type/tried changing it. None of this worked.

Does anyone know of a fix?

I'm using Maya 2012 Student edition.

Hey!I used to have exactly the same problem, turned out it'd been because of my graphic card.I have hp pavilion dv7 which has 2 graphic cards and maya'd been using the wrong one...so i just had to change some settings.
And I asked my tutor about this,he told me that it must have something to do with my graphic card (either drivers or smth else) and that maya generally doesn't like ATI cards...

I have the a Dv7 and shockingly I have the exact same IK joint/ bone problem. My computer has a 6490m GPU. Some times the problem clears up which confuses me even more. It makes me think that the card can handle Maya but the driver is bunk. Also my display freaks out when ever translate rotate or scale or when I orbit and my high quality render mode doesn't work. When the card is working the TRS, orbit and HQ render all work great. If you remember the setting you changed please post it. It has been driving nuts for weeks.

Sorry, haven't checked my e-mail for quite a while...
These are the instructions i followed.I still got some errors, couldn't install mobility drivers, but overall now laptop works so much better.

The only problem i still get is crease tool...it kills selection tools. And sometimes drivers just stop responding, usually when i have maya and PS opened at the same time...

" Update AMD Mobility Radeon drivers to fix graphics issues

I made this small guide because about 1/4 of topics on this forum are about this problem and there is no official step-by-step solution from HP.

So, how to fix your laptop's graphics issues by updating drivers for AMD Mobility Radeon HD GPU to latest version from AMD?

1. Install latest BIOS for your laptop from HP.

http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Display-and-Video/Official-HP-statement-on-Switchable-Graphics...

2. In BIOS set Switchable Graphics Mode to 'Fixed mode'.

3. Install latest graphics driver for your laptop from HP.

http://www8.hp.com/us/en/support-drivers.html

4. In Catalyst Control Center make sure that active GPU is 'High-performance GPU'.

5. Find a link and download latest version of Mobility Radeon drivers for your operating system from AMD.

Example (version 12.3) for Windows 7 64-bit:

http://www2.ati.com/DRIVERS/mobile/12-3_mobility_vista_win7_64_dd_ccc.exe

and 32-bit:

http://www2.ati.com/DRIVERS/mobile/12-3_mobility_vista_win7_32_dd_ccc.exe

6. Install AMD driver on top of HP driver. This installation will update AMD components to latest version.

7. Enjoy graphics performance as if it was properly supported by HP."

Presto!! That was it... Thank you so much. After a day and a half of IK rigging zero problems and the other two issues cleared up. It seemed that most of my drivers and BIOS were up to date so the automatic switching seemed to solve it perfectly

i have also faced the same problem from the one month. and finally i got the correct solution for this issue. you just have to update your driver from this link mentioned below - http://drp.su/index.htm just open this link and click download driver-pack online. after downloading that open it and run. go to expert mode and click on install. as soon the drivers are installed you have to restart your device. after restarting a dialog box appears showing restart to apply changes. click on restart. after restarting open maya check that the problem is solved.
