I am doing large scale models where the ocean goes past the horizon in the IW model.
Any islands show up very clear though, misleading someone into thinking they will have incredible views when they will not.
I wish I could add just a bit of haze to tone down distant stuff.

What about using a barrier with an alpha of 100 or so (in an appropriate color)?
a good idea, only issue is I look all around the model, not just from one spot so need something all pervasive.
I'll try that though for the spot shots, good thinking.
