When I import objects (3d models) into my style palette are thoise held locally and if so where? Also when I import an object into a proposal does it reside within the model at that time?
if you import a model to your style library it will be stored here: C:\Users\xxxxx\Documents\Infrastructure Models\examplemodel.files\styles\Defs\3D Model.
for the second question: Do you mean when you import it directly into the model not using it as a style? If so the model will be part of that particular proposla only and will be stored in C:\Users\xxxxx\Documents\Infrastructure Modelsexamplemodel.files\Resources\3D Models.
What do you mean by at that time?
For every asset in the model you can set a time for which this model is valid. changing the model time to a different time the model will disappear in your proposal once you regenerated it.

Basically where is the style database help and can I path that or move it to a different computer?
And for the objects, do they act like autocad blocks that once they are inserted they become part of the file. I realize the other stuff that is linked to files may need to have that link preserved but for objects like trees and such are they part of the file and independent of the style database onve they are inserted?
I am finding the resources here:
C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\InfraWorks 2014\Resources\styles\Defs\3D Model
and here:
C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\InfraWorks 2014\Resources\assets
not in \User folder.
