Infraworks Camera Paths

I was hoping that someone may be able to provide some insight, as I want to create a decent workflow for some camera paths.

The scenario that I will be running into will involve ZERO roadways from Infraworks. Instead, the model will consist of several surfaces, coverage areas and other data. With that said, I will be creating close to 40 different storyboards that will 'drive' down the center of all the existing lanes as created from aerial data and other information.

Would the best method for this be to create 3D polylines with C3D points/elevations at all vertices and then MAPEXPORT each path?

One of the biggest obsticles that I will be running into is the fact that I have multiple bridges, flyovers (some loop around even), etc. that I will need to have the paths follow.

Any info would be greatly appreciated as I would rather ask ahead of time than cause more brain damage or headaches. It would be smart if there was an option to use items such as 3D polylines or feature lines to quickly and easily create camera paths, unless there is something that I am missing or losing during 'translation'.

Thanks in advance!

While I must admit that I have not yet attempted this workflow, and I'm not certain that this completely addresses your need-- it should be possible to import point data for a camera path. Each point becomes a camera path keyframe that shows users the path along a particular feature. You can visit this help topic for more information:

Please let me know if this was able to help, or if you are still pursuing a different solution.

Thanks!

I've been struggling to determine how to create this point file that you then import as an SDF file. Do you draft a 3D polyline, and then use divide to place a point and then MAPEXPORT that or what? I'd really need to learn how to do this quickly. I've been panning along the model taking shots and then connecting them, which is a pain...

Hi Thomas,

you are basically mentioning the way I would do it:

Create a 3D path for the camera in any program, convert to points - which is not needed since you can import a path or points in InfraWorks, export as vector data such as shape file (.shp), import in InfraWorks as Camera Path.

Cheers,
Karsten.
