Importing 3D bridge design in infraworks

Hi all

I have a 3d design of a bridge in fbx format, the 3d design is in the right coordinate system as my infraworks project.

im able to import the bridge design but having trouble configuring it to display properly in the right place.

any help would be greatly appreciated

thanks

Hi alabedz,

Can you provide some more info? What does the bridge look like when it is imported/configured? i.e., how far away from its proper place is the bridge displaying? Also, which program did you use to design the 3D model of the bridge?

Thanks,

Elliott

The 3d bridge design was done in autocad (attachment 1). The bridge was setup in the right coordinate system and levels so that is not the issue.
I had to import the CAD file into MX design program and then output it as a fbx file.

I tried to import the fbx file through import 3d model but it doesnt seem to import correctly as there is no option under type for my model,
trying to use interactive placing isnt an option as i need it to sit in its exact place.

I have tried to insert it as a style palette but the problem im having with that is that its coming in like attachemnt 2.
which means i have to manouvre it manualy in order to get it in place, which i cant get exactly right.

Not sure how to go about doing this now, im out of ideas, any tips would be great!

thanks

I'm sorry, for I am not as familiar with the version of InfraWorks you are using as I am the more recent releases of InfraWorks 360.

That said, I wonder if the issue is being cause by a difference in the UCS v. database coordinate systems. i.e., are you using a Metric CS for your data source, but an Imperial CS for the UCS? This difference in units of measurements between the data source CS and the display CS could possibly be causing the issue. Just a guess!

Also, have you tried to position the bridge during configuration using the X,Y,Z coordinates for the two roads' end stations as reference? Forgive me if I am referring to functionality your version doesn't support.

Best,

Elliott

im using infraworks 2014 which shouldnt be different than the 360 from my understanding, unless im mistaken?

Im working for a company and it doesnt seem they have installed the carriageway design and bridge design addon for me.

im going to try workout how to do that

that might help with my problem.

I'm curious-- did you ever get your Bridge Design subscription activated? Is the import process working as you hoped?
