There don't appear to be any objects to represent Stockproof fencing/post and rail fencing/gates etc - am I overlooking something
If not, how can I create these objects?

I found it odd as well that there wasnt a standard chainlink fence or really any fencing for that matter out of the box. Like Jutters said....i created a custom thin walled barrier and then applied a custom material to it with a jpeg that i downloaded that looked like chainlink fence. In the end it wasnt great, but it did the trick. It wasnt transparent either which would have been nice. Seems like you just have to work around it for now....

The other thing you can do is import the sketchup file into 3DS Max Design and then export to 3ds or Fbx. Those formats can be imported into the older versions of InfraWorks.
hi,
not sure what you are looking at. Format discussion see above.
To actually import it into AIW for further usage follow these steps:

please notice by the attached image, there is no "+" sign for me to add
That is because you aren't in the style palette but in the style choosing portion of the barrier command. Open the style palette and go to the barrier section. You'll see it there.
The following video is in 2015 R2 but the concept should be the same.
Hi MHK,
I don't have much experience with the 2014 interface for InfraWorks. However, I did a search of the 2014 help system and found a help topic that should get you what you want.
Click the link below, then navigate to User Help > Import Data > To Import 3D models.

Hope this helps!

Could you point me to the specific cl fence you downloaded for that model. The couple i have downloaded, dont really show up well in IW. They certainly dont look anything like your video model....appreciated if you could

i downloaded a fence from 3d warehouse. I am still confused about how to get it into infraworks 2014. Can somebody explain, i'd appreciate it.
This blog post explains a workflow. Since you have a sketchup file, ignore the part about creating the 3d model in AutoCAD.

The blog below is the best I have seen to create a chainlink fence...

Download the FREE Autodesk FBX Convertor - convert Various formats to FBX (preferably) or Export SKP directly from Sketchup to FBX...
I found another work around. You can create a component road and the place decorations on it, and then make the lanes .33' wide so you hardly notice it. But I agree, a fence should be a common thing and easily placed where the designer would like.
Hope that work around helps next time.
Thanks.
