API?

Where is the documentation for the Infraworks api? I see that it has some scripting abilities but how are we supposed to know how to use it? There is very little about this in google search.

HI Michael,

Check out these two blog posts from 5/14:

"InfraWorks Web-Services REST API Preview" - http://civilizeddevelopment.typepad.com/

-from the Civilized Development blog

"Infraworks 360 REST API – Tech Preview available" - http://adndevblog.typepad.com/infrastructure/

-from the Infrastructure Modeling DevBlog:

Hope this helps!

I spoke with our customer services advisor, and she promised to put me in touch with someone for some better documentation. I heard nothing back despite nagging her several times. So, I did my own digging and you're in luck.

The links to the documentation posted refer to the InfraWorks REST API, which is a "Cloud API" that allows access to model data for models that are published to InfraWorks 360. The REST API does not have any scripting capabilities for the desktop application, which I believe is what you are asking for.

Currently, there is no scripting API supported in InfraWorks. All we have is a preeliminary proof of concept of a JavaScript API, which has not changed for quite a few releases, and that does not have any documentation. Furthermore, any current APIs are subject to change, so you should use them at your own risk.

The InfraWorks team is evaluating the work that needs to be done to provide a desktop API. Which form and capabilities it will have still to be determined. We are getting lots of questions about it, so the API is high on our priority list, but we want to insure we provide enough capabilities and functionality to make it useful before we publish it. Once an desktop API is published, extensive documentation will be provided with it.

Hope it helps,

maybe with an API we can replace the barely-functional UI introduced in 2014 R4.
