Importing Civil 3D data - DWG or IMX?

There are 2 basic ways to import Civil 3D data into InfraWorks.

1. Using a Civil 3D DWG [direct import]

2. Using an IMX file [exported from C3D]

NOTE: The following examples are taken from the same source file.

When importing the IMX, you can see that you get Categories: Roads, Surfaces, Pipes, and Structures:

When importing the Civil 3D DWG, you not only get the Categories above, but you also get Corridor Coverages. Notice that the you can see and select individual elements as well, allowing you to include/exclude only the pieces you want to import:
