Combining/Copying Data Between InfraWorks Projects

Here are 2 workflows used to combine data from one project to another:

1. Create an IMX of your entire project area, or the area you want to add to another model.

     a. Import the IMX to the 'main' project

     b. Choose Data Sources to be added

NOTE: You will need to Configure each 'type' individually.

2. Create a Generic Data Source, and connect to the .SQLite of the project to be added to the 'main' project.

     a. Connect to Data Source

     b. Connection Type: Generic

     c. Provider: SQLIte: Internal SQLite Driver

     d. Connection String: <location of InfraWorks Projects> [Default: C:\Users\<user>\Documents\Autodesk InfraWorks Models]

NOTES:

1. Using option 1 seems to give a more accurate [cleaner] combined overall model. IMPORTANT: The bigger the model, and more data you import and configure, the longer it will take to complete the regen/config of the processed data.

2. When using option 2, the data imports and processes much faster. IMPORTANT: You will need to use option 1 to import the surface data. Using the SQLite will give you a flat surface area at 0 elevation.

IMPORTANT: If you plan on combining 2 [or more] 200sq km project areas be prepared for long configuration times for each 'type' and also be prepared for your project size to jump by several Gigabites [even if it is relatively small]. Plus; the performance of the model will take a significant hit.
