Allow Design Roads to be split...

Yes, please! I have a 22 mile highway alignment which passes through lots of small hills and valleys where it is necessary to split the east and westbound lanes apart and rejoin them back together. This is also common where a highway is separated by a very wide median, of which you could create a component or design road style, but will often split into 2 separate segments when passing over a ravine or water feature to minimize the structural requirements for a bridge.

I would think you would need separate profiles for those split design roads as well.

How to get this idea elevated? This functionality should be fairly basic and I'm amazed that the option is not implemented yet... Working with some very long design roads now and want to split them up. No option. These kind of issues is what makes my love/hate relationship to InfraWorks...

@Anonymous There are some good suggestions came out of this idea and we are currently researching this into our workflow discussions as we strengthen road modeling capabilities.

This idea has 21 votes and ranked at 40th out of all we have so far! More votes would help elevate, but not that we are waiting for them to see how important it is.

We will update soon as we make some progress on this idea.

Thanks

Just encountered a situation where splitting design roads is needed.  The lack of it has cost lots to time stripping out existing roads and putting back in the bits that are staying.

Here's another example showing why this option is required for those of us who don't have 20/20 future vision.

The 1st screen capture below shows an existing municipal road that has a existing T-intersection.

The 2nd screen capture shows the recreated main through using a design road as a single alignment and the side road obviously T'ing into it with a second alignment.

The 3rd screen capture shows the large sweeping curve removed from the main road and a roundabout put in its place. This still works, however, the main road is approx. 3km long, the logical location to begin a new alignment would be the center of this roundabout.

When I apply superelevation to the through alignment, 4th screen shot, the rndabt disappears telling me the geometry in invalid, insufficient arm length or radii.  At this point I cannot tell if it is the southern arm or northern arm that is the issue (or both) as it is all just one alignment?? If I could split the alignment at the Rndabt center I could apply the super on each leg separately to narrow down the issue.

Split Alignment.jpgForgive me if the following item is already in the software, I just haven't found it yet. As long as we are talking about splitting alignments, we should also be able to define/redefine the starting station or affix stationing to a precise point on the geometry. And of course have the profile lock onto the horizontal geometry.
