Composed bridge

Hello guys,

hope everything is fine for you!

Question: is it possible to have a composed bridge in Infraworks? Let's say the longest spans are made of steel, the others of concrete. You cannot chosse that? Right?

I think you already answered your own question in the other thread about bridge design and future product enhancements.  🙂

Meh... So sad to get a confirmation!

So would you go through Revit for it? Thank you Matt!

I certainly wouldn't use Infraworks for anything more than conceptual use. It's a preliminary type of software to be used to get owner/client/stakeholder buy in. I would do the more detailed design, be it roadways, grading, drainage, bridge and building design in a more design-dedicated software such as Civil 3D (for the roadways, grading, drainage), Revit Structure (for bridge design) and Revit Arch/MEP for the building design.

I think it would be great if Infraworks could accommodate a steel/concrete bridge design and do some rough sizing of beams and girders but I wouldn't rely on it for a full-blown, highly detailed design. The IW homepage says it best... "PRELIMINARY DESIGN SOFTWARE".

IW has come a long way in the year+ that I've been using it and it seems they're putting a ton of $$$ and resources into continuing to develop it. My only wish is that Civil 3D were more like IW in the way that it process and handles data. C3D is just so sluggish and slow.

Thanks for this feedback you guys.

And stay tuned! InfraWorks 360 is definitely moving away from being solely for Preliminary Design and becoming more suited for detailed design as we move forward with each release. And while i can't guarantee upcoming release features, I do think that many of the bridge enhancements you speak of are in the pipeline!

@elliott.rosenfeld, I was pretty impressed with last week's Coffee Corner. They showed some really cool stuff!! I hope EVERYTHING makes it into Infraworks!  Smiley Very Happy #fanboying

Hi Everyone,

I just wanted to provide a quick update on this thread.

We are currently working on the ability to save out bridge configurations, then use them on other bridges or in other InfraWorks models.  These allow you to customize a bridge, then save it out as a 'template'  so that it can be re-used.  The cool thing is... these bridge templates will replace our current bridge 'Styles' which are creating the limitation that is in the original post.  So with bridge templates, you'll be able to have concrete approach spans with steel interior spans, and the 'Bridge Type' will no longer need to be determined in InfraWorks by the type of girders used.  We are working on it right now, so I'll keep you posted on the progress.

Thanks!
