This was a question from user @nrdamayanti :

hi @Eric_Chappell , I know its out of your topic also but hopefully you can escalate this.

I create model that contain metro track more than 40 km. I need to make them as design railway not as conceptual railway relate video output

sometimes I need to change style of some part of the railways, but right now there's no option to change the properties as it define as design railway.

As we know we can change road/railwal properties as it define as conceptual. what we have right now is we can convert conseptual road/railwal into design road/railway but not the opposite. It will be so much effort if i redraw or import again some part of my design railway that already edited in my model.

Thanks

regards

Damayanti

@Anonymous the short answer is no. You cannot create a design railway...not yet anyway.

However, you can create a design road and make it look like a railway with some styles.

I've attached a JSON file containing some rail styles created by Austin Jephson here at Autodesk. Try these out and let me know what you think. I know that rails are geometrically different that roads but conceptually you can still do a great job representing rail with this approach.

Hi @Eric_Chappell ,

Thanks for attaching these railroad assemblies. Is there some way we can add ballast and subballast layer with thickness. I observed that custom profiles can be used for that but they are only limited to component roads.

I don't suppose any one has a version on this with concrete sleepers? And possibly OHLE components in every 50 or 60 meters or so?

Nice workfow, but what with turnouts and crossovers when using component roads as rails? They don't model well in Infraworks.

Best regards.
