Yesterday, I started our production Mapuide 6.5 server on win2003 server after upgraded the latest Microsoft security patches, unfortunately, it failed.
I found the DCOM error prior to the MapGuide server error, which means as long as DCOM has problem, the MapGuide server must start failed.
There are some log info from even log:
DCOM:
DCOM got error "The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion. " attempting to start the service MapServer6.5 with arguments "-Service" in order to run the server:
{64786101-4F61-4B11-8A52-375BD2D37A55}
MapGuide server:
1).Timeout (30000 milliseconds) waiting for the Autodesk MapGuide(R) Server 6.5 service to connect.
2) The Autodesk MapGuide(R) Server 6.5 service failed to start due to the following error:
The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion.
The MapGuide server was running at "starting" status on services and we saw a lot of "MapGuide server start failed info" in evenlog. Although we started it sucessfully eventualy after set "start type" from "automatical" to "manual" in services, we still looking for the root cause. because the relavent issue took place on other development servers. Anybody's suggestion and idea would be appreciated!
BTW, at the beginning, we suspect the security patch cause this issue, however we patched two similiar MapGuide servers, one is OK, the other was failed.
Also I found the DCOM related issue on Microsoft knowledge base:
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/support/ee/transform.aspx?ProdName=Windows%20Operating%20System&ProdVer=5.0&EvtID=10005&EvtSrc=DCOM&LCID=1033, it seems this issue caused by third-party vendor, like autodesk.
Thanks!
