Quality of WMS layers in high-DPI maps from AIMS

We're having problems with quality of WMS layers in maps rendered by AIMS with high DPI.

The attached map a3-vysoka-5000-side-by-side.png shows the original WMS image on the left side (grey background due to transparency) and rendered map on the right side. You can see significant decrease in quality, most details are lost. This is DPI = 288 (corresponds with A3 format).

The second issue is that if the map pixel size is high, AIMS requests smaller image from WMS. It seems that the limit is approx 4k pixels in one dimension. A0-stred-mp.png is A0 map with 192 DPI from AIMS. A0-stred-mp-request.png is what AIMS requested from WMS source. On these samples you can see both issues: smaller image is requested and the quality is decreased in final output.

Please, are there any configuration options of AIMS to reduce these issues? Or is it expected behavior? Why?

Thanks, Jakub

Try playing around with the MaxRasterImageHeight and MaxRasterImageWidth properties in serverconfig.ini

Thanks a lot!

We set both values to 8192. It helped for A3 prints with 288 DPI (2910w x 4320h).

But for higher sizes, the MG requests still generated smaller queries to WMS source. E.g.

  • 5 820w x 4 320h --> 4 754w x 3 528h
  • 5 820w x 8 640h --> 3 361w x 4 990h

So it still seems there is some limit or downsampling ratio.
