Problems loading DWGs

We are having a time trying to get DWGs into MGE.

1. Using Map 3D 2009 and auto connect publishing to MGE 2009 the drawing
sources come in as dwfs. They look ok. Color, etc. However entities are
not selectable and no data is available.

2. If the dwgs are "drag and dropped" into MGE and a load procedure is set
and run, I get SDF files. Some entities come in but all color, etc. are
lost. 3D faces do not come across and there is no entity data available

3. If SDF is exported from Map 3D and entity data fields are identified to
be exported, the SDF can be loaded as a data source. Again 3d faces do not
come across and the colors are black. Enitities that come across are
selectable and properties are shown.

I know stylization is lost with SDF feature data but are 3d faces not
created or useable with SDF? SDF appears the only way to get any type of
entity data, object data, or externally attached data to dwg into MGE. And
then you have to stylize the entities in MGE.

If DWF are brought in we get decent appearance but no selection/data
ability. It would seem going from dwg to MGE would be a bit easier and
better than with other data stores since they both are Autodesk products.

Does anyone have any insight on a better way of doing this?

After much trying, I have been somewhat successful. Wish there was a
tutorial on DWG to MGE. Maybe I can write one...
Seems like the best way is to Export to SDF, saving multiple features based
on layers (and selecting any attributes for each feature to be exported)
into the sdf file. Then bring into MGE through load procedure. Once the
single multiple feature layer is in MGE, edit that layer and select each
feature from the dropdown, stylize, select mouseover and attributes to show
when selected. Save this as a separate layer. Do this for each feature and
then bring each layer created into your map.

Publishing a dwf to MGE form Map 3D works great for showing the original
drawing and style. Still don't think you can get to selectable object data
or mouseover.
