You can. I run both my development and production environments with
operational versions of both. Actually, production is using MapGuide Open
Source. The one problem that I have run into is on the production machine
(Windows 2000 Server). There seems to be a conflict between the raster data
providers with MG6.5 and MGOS. If I use rasters in MGOS, it locks up the
MGOS service. But, as a side affect of this, it also kills MapGuide 6.5
sites that try to access rasters when MGOS is in this locked up state. That
is very undesirable so I am not using rasters in MGOS until the data
provider is updated. The odd thing is that I do not experience this
conflict on my development XP laptop and I have not seen anybody else post
about having this problem.
