MapGuide Enterprise

Does anyone know where I could get a training manual for Enterprise and Studio. We are currently using 6.5 and are planning on transferring over to enterprise. I was told that Enterprise is drastically different.

Any help is much appreciated.

Hi Jim,

If you haven't done this already, you might want to go to www.autodesk.com/mapguide and click on the Autodesk MapGuide Enterprise link. It has quite a bit of information (including FAQ's) highlighting the differences between MapGuide 6.5 and MapGuide Enterprise. Be sure to try the links on the left side of the page.

Then, you might try the Autodesk MapGuide Studio link. MapGuide Studio is the "authoring" application for MapGuide Enterprise. This has quite a bit of information as well.

Finally, try the MapGuide Open Source link. This will take you to the OSGeo site. On the right, there is a link called Documentation. This will take you to the documentation download page. You can download the Developer's Guide from there.

There is no official Autodesk Training Center training courseware for
MapGuide Enterprise. I inquired about this 6 weeks ago since I have a
MapGuide Enterprise training engagment for a client next week. I was told
that there is no courseware available and that there were no immediate plans
to produce any. I will end up doing this training with some of the material
I have put together for AU as well as the mish-mash of documentation
currently available for MGE and MGOS. Autodesk is going to encounter more
problems in the next year as more people want to move to this platform but
training centers have no material from which to train. Maybe somebody will
come up with a full 3rd party training manual and make that available for
sale to other trainers and the public.

Andy:

I wasn't able to make the trip to AU this year. I have budgeted Enterprise for next year which is making me nervous.

Do you do Enterprise training? If so how much?

Yes, we are starting to do MapGuide Enterprise training. In most cases, it
is more of a jump-start type of approach with a week spent on-site
understanding your data, project goals, infrastructure, etc.. Then, a day
or two going over the fundamentals of MapGuide Enterprise and installing and
configuring the software in your environment. The remainder of the time is
spent with you and your data to get your initial application off the ground.
So, at the end of the week, you have a functional application using your
data and enough knowledge to continue to build upon that application.

Please send me a personal email so I can email back a cost estimate. There
are some direct expenses (no administrative markup on our end) that are
variable depending on your location.

Thank you.

Oh, hi Jim. I didn't realize this is who it was. I actually have you in my
Outlook contacts since you introduced yourself to me at AU last year.

Email to follow.

Hi Andy,
Also, you will find some resellers creating their own in time. Your Autodesk resellers will have the some materials quite soon (not AOTC unfortunately).

And if Andy is too busy, you can always contact me.
