Java 2

Hi,

Is it possible to use Java 2 in an appplet to communicate (both ways) with
MGViewer (ActiveX / PlugIn)? I know that it is possible to use Java 1.1
with Netscape and LiveConnect but how to do the same with IE5 (IE6) and Java
2. I tried to use the JVM (Java Plugin 1.3.1) from SUN running in the
browser but without any good result.

Regards,

Pierre Cardinal

Hi Pierre,

I tested JDK 1.2.2 with MapGuide Release 6.0 Viewer (PlugIn version) and it
works. I was able to access the PlugIn from within a wrapper applet on
Netscape browser version 4.72. However, this failed on JDK 1.3.

It might be possible to access the ActiveX control Viewer from within
Microsoft Visual J++ but I doubt if this is commonly done. If you want to
use Java with the MapGuide Viewer on IE, it is better to do this with the
Java Edition Viewer. However, there are some limitations here, since IE does
not support the LiveConnect technology.

Cheers
