That news is about a month old........... It's a pretty smart move in my
opinion, and KML support out of AutoCAD is important for businesses today.
It will be interesting to see what happens with Google Earth Enterprise
since that would be in direct competition to MapGuide Enterprise and
MapGuide Open. It will not surprise me if Autodesk soon offers dynamic
KML/KMZ support directly from MapGuide for Google Earth network links. A
few of us have been doing this for awhile, and it has required a pile of
custom programming. An example is here: http://www.spatialgis.com/demo.html

You've got a good start in this niché. I'm jealous. I tried your Google
Earth Integration demo for example and then sat there and asked "now what",
"how do I?" and so on. The user interface for these types of applications
remains convoluted don't you think? I loaded the KMZ and the auto-zoom
dropped me off looking into a space with a reddish rooftop and that's about
as much detail I could get from any mapped building.

The layout of the page for the WMS demo gave me scrolleritis so I haven't
seen it in its entirety yet. That page needs a sidebar ainna?

Have you done anything with the 3D Warehouse yet? Do you know how robust the
API for 3D Warehouse models would be? It seems we will have to learn Ruby
because Sketchup is used to generate the model. Do you concur? I prefer C#
and ASP.NET so I'm also trying to stay informed of what is going on with
Windows Live and wondering which vendor alliance to support.

I'm confused about the description of your problems with the various demo
sites. What happened with the Google Earth demo? Did it zoom you into the
Spokane area where there is a red polygon indicating where the demo area?
Zoom in within that area until you are below about 7000 ft eye altitude and
the parcels data will start streaming from the MapGuide Open Source server.
Click on any parcel centroid and a photo of that parcel is also included in
the info balloon.

Yes, I agree that Google Earth is not super intuitive and is more of a
"power user" application. But, once you understand the controls, tilting,
vertical exaggeration, etc. it's incredible. I have recently added some
more client feedback to tell the users how far in they are zoomed and tilted
and what the requirements are for any given layer, so that should make it
into the demo app soon. The API is rather limited (read: there is none) on
the client-side, so there really is no way to easily add instructions, help
tips, etc.

Yeah, the Google Maps demo page is a little long in description and could
use some reformatting, but you shouldn't have to scroll within the page once
you are looking at just the map (unless you're using a resolution below
1024x768 I suppose).

I haven't worked much with the 3D Warehouse yet. I have a client that is
creating their 3D models in Sketchup, but I will only be responsible for
integrating the resultant KML with the rest of their basemap data.

I double-clicked the image in your webpage and selected Open from the dialog
which launches Google Earth (GE). The autozoom stops at Spokane.
Double-clicking Spokane zooms into the neighborhood showing the red roof
which stands out from the gray-scale imagery. So okay, double-click the red
roof and it zooms in even closer. That was it.

If I have checked Places > Parcels I can see 3D Warehouse (house icons) for
university buildings but again, nothing else when clicking which is the
obvious and expected behavior.

Probably me because I haven't delved into the vagaries of learning GE.
