Images displaying blank when importing

When I import an image, it displays as a greyed out window. Could this be a memory issue (PC has all required specs)or something else perhaps?

My workmate has not got this problem, so can't be a software fault I don't feel.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

All images behave this way or only ones of certain types/sizes?
