gearing tool

gearing tool

A simple tool for generating arbitrary gear profiles with built in support for involute gearing, herringbone, and if you want to get cute, optimal http://citeseerx.ist.psu.edu/viewdoc/download?doi=10.1.1.56.4984&rep=rep1&type=pdf and arbitrary tooth profiles.

It'd also be great if there were an efficient way of storing complex but highly symmetric geometries. I'm finding that after adding something with ~ 200 teeth every save is taking ~10-15 seconds.

Please would a Gear Tool as proposed in video here (http://forums.autodesk.com/t5/Fusion-360-IdeaStation-Request-a/Bolted-Connection-for-Fusion/idc-p/48... with that?

Regarding the performance: What about having and option to generate a gear with just 2 or 3 teeth. Would that be sufficient?

Thanks for your help,

Vasek

One more question. Would a custom teeth profile be intresting for you?

Thanks,

I'd love custom tooth profiling and the example in the video looks awesome.. especially if it scales well for largeish numbers of teeth like this

Has there been any advancements since the last post in regards to a spur gear tool?  I know we have a script generator available,  this is a great start but I was hoping for something a little easier to use.  Specifically this would be amazing http://youtu.be/eKdTTE4j8so

Status changed to: Implemented

API provides users with a gear generator, and can be modified to add additional capabilities.

Not remotely acceptable.

That's a pain for someone like me who can code and it's utterly unusable for someone who just wants to design stuff without having to monkey around with the scripting.

Worse - if someone spends the time to get it right then they'll basically be throwing out their work and still risking missing bugs. This is a recipe for dozen crappy implementations of something that should be done once and right as part of the core app.

I second that this should be a tool and not implemented in the API level.

This thing is at 26 votes, says «implemented» and yet isn't remotely close.

Please implement!!!

I'm a newbie to CAD, but before fusion, I used a tiny program (tiny enough to fit on a USB stick) to design and print gear templates. Why all the debate around this in the IdeaCenter? A mechanical design program needs a gear generator. It shouldn't be a question. If the claim is that claiming that Fusion 360 is for 3d production and creativity, please prove it and make this an efficient tool for people who design and create things from the ground up... or top down, whatever you prefer.
