Drag & Drop - Vault to Application

Drag & Drop - Vault to Application

I would LOVE to see Drag'n'Drop functionality from Vault to Inventor Assemblies and the Application Window, While keeping folder references valid.

At the moment you can Drag'n'Drop files from Vault to Inventor, but it opens them from a temporary directory. Now that Vault allows us to specify a default Project File. it should be able to open the part from the working directory instead.

Ideally it would allow us to drop a file into an assembly by dropping into the assembly file edit window or open a file by dropping onto the application title bar.

This functionality would enable users to search Vault for parts using keyword search (skip the 3rd party PLM system in our case), browse the search results using thumbnails, then just place the desired part straight into our assembly without the need to 'Get' the files, then 'Place' them.

Awesome idea... Make sure you spell my name right in the credits!

This is a feature back in 2011 available in Solidworks Vault.

In Vault 2022, Drag a part from external vault into inventor assembly will cause the part being in the temporary folder instead of the part belonging to the vault after drag and dropped into inventor. this feature works perfectly with Inventor and Vault 2021 but stopped working since upgraded to 2022.

I highly recommend this issue to be fixed as it is the feature of the best part of Vault. It is disabled now and reduces the work efficiency significantly.

Please use Vaulkt standard functionality ==> Insert CAD - It works fine

Can someone confirm that the Insert in CAD function is available only in Vault Professional? The option appears to be missing in Vault Basic 2021.

Thanks!

@ScottDurham it does work in Vault Workgroup 2019.

Please check the path of the document in the properties.
This is not in the working directory, but the document is temporarily placed in the path c:\Temp.
In addition, the document has another name.
It is therefore outside the Vault Workgroup structure and, from our point of view, is corrupt.

An official feature would be very good to be able to drag and drop parts and assemblies from Vault into Inventor assemblies.

Can't believe this issue is not solved yet in Vault Basic 2022, as said before by a colleague, this could be definitely a game changer...please Autodesk consider this issue.

@M.MartinezELMO

Why doesn't the "Insert into CAD" option work for you?

We don't have this functionality, we are working on Vault Basic.

Should be in this menu, right?

Sorry, this is a Workgroup and Professional only feature.
