Revit - Family Metadata in Vault

Revit - Family Metadata in Vault

Description

When Families are added to Vault, none of the Family parameter data (inside the file) is accessible for searching against.

Impact

This metadata has to be manually added to the files via the properties, which is a very time consuming process.

Severity

High

Solution

Vault requires a means to expose the data from the Family’s Type Parameters (inside the file) or associated Type Catalog file so that files can be efficiently searched.

As an idea only, this could potentially be achieved through the addition of a new tab (Types) which for each Family will display this data.

This ideally needs to be separated from the meta-data which we can additionally add to files using the Vault properties.

I'm sorry, but this is no implemented in 2014. So if you could please change the Status back to Accepted.

The problem here is that in 2014 when using the Search function you cannot find content based on parameter values which are found inside the files (Families). The parameter values are not reflected as Vault Properties either.

Please make sure that you have downloaded and install the Revit Plug-in for Vault Professional 2014.

Take a look at these other 2 help location to enable and use it.

Enable Revit Indexing

Search Revit Family Files

Searching utilizing the family parameter data is available in the Revit plug-in, where the data is most useful to the user.  The intent was to be as non-disruptive as possible to the Revit user's workflow and not force them to go to the Vault client do this design activity, outside their normal design tool.

Thanks for the reply Regina, and that's all good, but what about the data manager?

The Vault client offers a number of great search and reporting features, but at the moment since the Family data is not exposed in the client, then the data manager has no way of navigating the Families in a convenient way.

Vault is indexing the family data for the end user in Revit, but that same indexed data should also be readily available in the Vault client for management purposes.

THIS, is what this feature request is refering to, and as such I would like the status rolled back as this is not implemented.

Thanks.

Autodesk welcomes all Ideas but as we run with them, and hopefully reach an implementation phase, our execution of your idea may not be precisely how you envisioned it.  Keep in mind that we have a lot of folks to please (including ourselves!) and so we’ll occasionaly deliver an Idea that may not be exactly / precisely how you envisioned it.
