Include AutoCAD Electrical and AutoCAD MEP

Status: New Idea
by Valued Contributor jberns on ‎10-02-2013 05:22 PM

Autodesk,

Please consider including AutoCAD Electrical in the suite to support wiring the equipment. ACE is already included in PrDS, FDS users could benefit also.

Also please consider adding AutoCAD MEP to add support for wiring and plumbing the building to run these utilities to the machine equipment.

If machinery moves it would be great if the building wiring/plumbing model could update.

This could provide an even more complete BOM of equipment and MEP requirements for a design layout.

Please don't raise the cost of FDS Ultimate.

If ACE or ACMEP cannot be included, please make them available as an add-on module for a reasonable cost (less than $500).

Thanks for your time and attention.

Regards,

Jerry

By creating an element with variants. No operations are updated when changing variant decals.
It should update all transactions without exception.
You should be able to edit the 2D block to be generated. To put elements in different layers, colors, line types, attributes, etc..
If you edit the generated 2D block factory (In AutoCAD Architecture for a change of color, line type, attributes, etc..), Might not work in AutoCAD flow -> Inventor correctly.

Ability to edit the generated 2D blocks Factory to create dynamic blocks, adding capabilities (visibility, scale, stretch, matrix, etc..)
I've tried to edit blocks and generated 2D Factory, not recognized back then updated Inventor from AutoCAD Architecture.
We're finding customers already asking us this feature, which would give infinite possibilities 2D/3D workflow.

I have worked with many shop floor layouts that come from different contractors who don't have a good understanding of how to structure layers and thus the need arises to mere several layers into one. Shop floor layouts usually contain different colors and line types to help communicate the layout and flow of the layout. The merger command combines multiple layers into one layer then deletes the old layers but does not have an option to retain the properties of the objects within the layers that were merged. Could you add option (dialog box) to ask if you would like to retain object properties (Color, line type) when merging layers. Thanks!

All,

I know that the Operation, Transportation, etc. defaults can be customized and saved in an AutoCAD template.  However, I was wondering if these can somehow be added to AutoCAD profiles and then exported so that they can be imported into a different AutoCAD drawing.  The thought behind this is to develop a facility or workcell layout and see how it stacks up in a multi-product environment.  By using the AutoCAD profile, the hope is to only have one to generate one drawing, load the desired profile with the operation defaults, perform an analysis and then export the results as a spreadsheet.  One could then combine multiple results spreadsheets into one and then chart out how the layout works for each product.  The alternative is to copy the layout into multiple AutoCAD drawings created from the necessary templates.

I am not sure if this is a good idea or not, but seems to me to be an efficient way to transfer the operations data into AutoCAD drawings.  The other idea I had, that is related, is to expand the Template Spreadsheet to include tabs for the various defaults.  It would be nice to keep everything in AutoCAD, but the spreadsheet may be even faster...

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.  Hope all is well and have a most blessed day!

Peace,

Pete

Selective Material Flow Data Export

Status: New Idea
by Distinguished Contributor petestrycharske on ‎08-28-2013 07:45 AM

All,

I have been working on a way to design an overall facility layout and then build the work cells individually as subassemblies, which I can then XRef into the drawing.  When I export the overall factory material flow data, I get everything in the XML.  What I would like to do is to select just the routings, stations and products that are required for a given subassembly.  For example, if I have a CNC machining work cell, I would like to only export the XML data for that workcell and then import that specific XML file into the proper subassembly.

I haven't seen a way to do this yet and I suppose I could modify the XML file myself, but I think it would be a smoother workflow to simply choose the data to export and then save that XML file with a customer filename.  Please let me know if I am talking crazy or if there is a different workflow that I could use to accomplish this.  If you have any questions, or would like some examples, please do not hesitate to contact me.  Hope all is well and have a most blessed day!

Peace,

Pete

Pattern connector points

Status: New Idea
by Valued Mentor on ‎07-19-2013 01:05 AM

Hello there,

I think it would be good if we could acess connector points like

we acess ordinary geometry and thus enable us to pattern them

while creating assets. I had to work out a different solution when

it came to modeling an asset of a spiral conveyer with a variable

number of levels and infeed/outfed connections.

Kind regards

AEC Objects should transfer to inventor

Status: New Idea
by wiemersb on ‎06-28-2013 02:04 PM

All fuctionality of AEC objects should transfer to Inventor.  Most equipment locating is done from walls and columns so those should be availble for reference (realistic view not 2d wire frame) and snaping to when designing and creating the installation drawings.

Lines in block

Status: New Idea
by jorgen.sb on ‎05-16-2013 03:30 AM

I want my lines in block to end up in the layer i choose in inventor, not only the block.I want to be able to separate layer for block and the lines inside block.

I always place block on layer 0 in Autocad and the lines inside block in the right layer for the best funktion.

Showing values of computed parameters

Status: New Idea
by Valued Mentor on ‎04-05-2013 06:32 AM

Hello,

it would be great if the value of a computed

parameter could be shown in the properties.

Would make checking and changing a lot

more flexible to see the equations result.

Kind regards

When you do a search or browse for assets, it would be nice to be able to download all the assets in a search or all the assets in a particular catagory.  Perhaps a Download All option.  Thanks.

Navisworks Unit Conversion

Status: New Idea
by Distinguished Contributor petestrycharske on ‎03-06-2013 11:28 AM

All,

Not really sure this is a FDS idea, per se, but it would be really nice if the units from Inventor, ACAD, Revit, whatever, came into Navisworks with the correct units.  For example, I do quite a bit of Inventor modeling and then create a factory asset.  Once I brink an Inventor asset of factory layout into Navisworks, the units become cm (centimeters).  This just seems unnecessarily confusing and could save time checking the scale of appended objects.  Let me know if anyone has any questions and have a fantastic day!

Peace,

Pete

Descriptors and/ or tags listing

As far as I could fnd out, there is no asset descriptor/tag reporting tool available in FDS 2014. Can be a powerful way to report/BOM the layout.

Adaptive mirror command

Status: New Idea
by Valued Mentor on ‎02-15-2013 01:10 AM

Hello there,

i can´t quite place it yet but i would like to have the option to

have a mirrored object update as soon as the source for this

object changes.

I´m doing shelves and until now i do a single lane and mirror it.

As soon as a value changes in the source object, i have to delete

the mirrorde one and do it aknew.

Would be a nifty little feature.

Kind regards

Connector capability

Status: New Idea
by Valued Mentor on ‎02-15-2013 12:17 AM

Hello there,

working with assets i encountered a problem.

When doin an array of Assets i noticed the fact

connectors do connect but fail to update when

the origiinating object of the array change.

I can bypass this by trying to move the object,

for it can´t be moved because it´s fixed but to

simply try to move it is enough to get Inventor

to update the asset to the object it´s connected

to.

With very simple objects this is not necessary,

but with the objects i created this tends to happen.

Can this be fixed with an update? Seems like a

minor change to me.

Kind regards

Daniel

Hello there,

it would be great if it was possible to change the layer colours in the 2D portion of the assets permanently.

This would save a great deal of work after syncing to AutoCAD. Don´t you think so?

Kind regards

Tooltips for Factory Assets

Status: New Idea
by Valued Mentor on ‎02-14-2013 11:17 PM

Hello there,

a rather simple question.

can i deactivate the tooltips/quickinfo of the factory library.

It tends to block the libraries contents from view.

It would be nice if there was an option to turn them off.

Thanks in advance

2D Asset Linetype Graphics

Status: New Idea
by steve.schuchard on ‎02-11-2013 12:51 PM

Problem: Some 2D Assets require linetypes to properly represent the 2D views which are often standard.

Idea:

1. Use the option for utilizing a sketch for AutoCAD Graphics.

2. In the Inventor Sketch environment, specify simple linetypes.

Currently when perfroming this work, the linetypes are ignored.

Asset Chaining Graphics - Update

Status: New Idea
by steve.schuchard on ‎02-11-2013 12:41 PM

Problem: Asset Chain Graphics is only a polyline when first created and requries a round trip for update. The polyline graphics are not effective or desirebale by the user and therefore may not be used.

Idea: Have a update graphics button (right click on Asset?) that would roundtrip the polyline to generate the planview graphics.

2D Asset Elevation

Status: New Idea
by steve.schuchard on ‎02-11-2013 12:33 PM

A common problem existis for all assets with regards to elevation.

When a assets is placed at a elevation other than 0 - (On the floor), the 2D Assets is placed at a elevation. When modified in AutoCAD, the elevation is often changed, impacting the 3D Asset elevation.

This would be helpful for Overhead Conveyor Layout especially. Anything

This would be a problem fixer.

This would also make asset authoring easier.

This could be implemented in a simiilar fashion as in the asset authoring field for landing plane offset.
