Material flow analysis

Status: New Idea
by tom4x on ‎10-24-2013 01:59 AM

Hello,

i would like to improve the looks of my material flow analysis. Therefore I would like to adjust the width of my materialflow arrows proportionally to their transportation cost. Is that possible?

Moreover I would like to assign different colours for different jobs to my arrows.

Has anybody an idea how i can do that? Didn't find anything online.

I would be really grateful for your help!

Asset Tags in Inventor Drawings

Status: New Idea
by Mentor on ‎05-22-2014 09:02 PM

All,

I am working on document factory layouts in the Inventor drawing environment, but have hit a snag.  The drawing environment is great for creating my plan, iso and side views, but I don't seem to be able to bring the Asset Tags (haven't tried Descriptors yet) into the drawing environment.  Can we add this functionality into the drawing environment to save time having to relabel the components?  This could either be placed near the asset, like in the AutoCAD sync'd file, a property in a text box pull down or even something that could be placed into a parts list.  If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.  Hope all is well and have a most blessed day!

Peace,

Pete

Asset Chaining Graphics - Update

Status: New Idea
by steve.schuchard on ‎02-11-2013 12:41 PM

Problem: Asset Chain Graphics is only a polyline when first created and requries a round trip for update. The polyline graphics are not effective or desirebale by the user and therefore may not be used.

Idea: Have a update graphics button (right click on Asset?) that would roundtrip the polyline to generate the planview graphics.

I have been working on developing some workflows using the same AutoCAD building layout and then placing it as an XRef into different AutoCAD sublayouts.  These workflows work great for the FDS Standard version, but I have discovered a problem when syncing to Inventor.  For some reason it won't let me sync from Inventor to AutoCAD because it wants to overwrite the XRef files.  It would be much easier to simply see any XRef files as references also in Inventor and not attempt to overwrite them during the Sync process.  That way a master layout overlay could be used multiple times in a large comprehensive design.  If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.  Hope all is well and have a most blessed day!

Peace,

Pete

Descriptors and/ or tags listing

Status: New Idea
by Contributor strijkp ‎03-06-2013 10:42 AM - edited ‎03-06-2013 10:43 AM
As far as I could fnd out, there is no asset descriptor/tag reporting tool available in FDS 2014. Can be a powerful way to report/BOM the layout.

Several customers have now requested that FDS allow users to compute the Return On Investment for their projects. This would allow users to understand project costs earlier in the design phase and have faster iteration of design optimization.

Uses:

  • Examine project costs to make sure designs are within budget
  • Study several different designs to see which has the best results (is my design getting better or worse with these options?)
  • Simplify the transfer of cost data to analysts for a comprehensive study

How it could work:

  • Factory assets have attributes associated with costs (machine cost, consumables, energy consumption, throughput, utilization, yield, etc). Some of these are standard, some are user created, all are populated with user data.
  • Assets are placed as required in a project or layout
  • User selects relevant portions of a project and layout and exports to spreadsheet
  • Cost attributes of selected assets are placed in a spreadsheet for calculation
  • Optionally, users can select a spreadsheet template for the type of analysis they want to perform

Include AutoCAD Electrical and AutoCAD MEP

Status: New Idea
by Valued Contributor jberns on ‎10-02-2013 05:22 PM

Autodesk,

Please consider including AutoCAD Electrical in the suite to support wiring the equipment. ACE is already included in PrDS, FDS users could benefit also.

Also please consider adding AutoCAD MEP to add support for wiring and plumbing the building to run these utilities to the machine equipment.

If machinery moves it would be great if the building wiring/plumbing model could update.

This could provide an even more complete BOM of equipment and MEP requirements for a design layout.

Please don't raise the cost of FDS Ultimate.

If ACE or ACMEP cannot be included, please make them available as an add-on module for a reasonable cost (less than $500).

Thanks for your time and attention.

Regards,

Jerry

By creating an element with variants. No operations are updated when changing variant decals.
It should update all transactions without exception.
You should be able to edit the 2D block to be generated. To put elements in different layers, colors, line types, attributes, etc..
If you edit the generated 2D block factory (In AutoCAD Architecture for a change of color, line type, attributes, etc..), Might not work in AutoCAD flow -> Inventor correctly.

Point cloud insert workflows (scaling)

Status: New Idea
by Employee on ‎10-17-2012 06:27 AM

Point clouds should know the scale of the document they are going into and attempt to scale accordingly.  Point clouds typically are meter by meter by meter for scaling size - if the point cloud goes into a layout that is in MM it should scale - or if it is into an inch layout it should scale to imperial - if nothing else, have it work similar to block inserts in AutoCAD for the interaction.  (see attached)  IT is very confusing for the users in imperial - typically the cloud comes in 254x too small.

Tooltips for Factory Assets

Status: New Idea
by Valued Mentor on ‎02-14-2013 11:17 PM

Hello there,

a rather simple question.

can i deactivate the tooltips/quickinfo of the factory library.

It tends to block the libraries contents from view.

It would be nice if there was an option to turn them off.

Thanks in advance

Daniel

Conveyor Path Tool - Path Studies

Status: New Idea
by steve.schuchard on ‎02-11-2013 12:08 PM

Conveyor users need the ability to use FDS to perform studies. The user needs to place carriers on curves to generate a profile path. See example.

This is needed to ensure that the area is clear for movement of the carrier and the product is carrying.

Required Output needed is 2D Plan View (see example)

Future Output is 3D Swept Volume for clash detection.

Created in 2D or 3D. Horizontallly and Vertically.

Movement is not requested.

This is needed for material movement clearance studies.

2D Asset Elevation

Status: New Idea
by steve.schuchard on ‎02-11-2013 12:33 PM

A common problem existis for all assets with regards to elevation.

When a assets is placed at a elevation other than 0 - (On the floor), the 2D Assets is placed at a elevation. When modified in AutoCAD, the elevation is often changed, impacting the 3D Asset elevation.

This would be helpful for Overhead Conveyor Layout especially. Anything

This would be a problem fixer.

This would also make asset authoring easier.

This could be implemented in a simiilar fashion as in the asset authoring field for landing plane offset.

I like the idea to do pictures from a machine in a factory who exist and send it to 123D Catch and use the mesh model in Inventor (Using Mesh-Enabler) to create a legacy object as an asset.

I never tried the 123D Catch with larger objects as one meter. Also I have errors when I download the mesh. But this will be a great workflow to catch legacy objects in a factory.

Regards to all the others who like this.

Create Assets using Assets

Status: Accepted
by Mentor on ‎10-19-2012 07:47 AM

We have discovered that while trying to make an asset, there is no way to use an existing asset in the creation of another. Assets should be accessible when creating assemblies not just when creating a factory layout. Many times we need to have assemblies that contain standard assets but we still need to be able to change those assets once they have been inserted. Right now you get an error that says that part contains a factory layout and cannot be used to make an asset. (see attached) This is because the only way to see the asset was to create a layout to insert it into.

Point cloud insert (positioning)

Status: Implemented
by Employee on ‎10-17-2012 06:29 AM

Today, when inserting a point cloud, the placement is arbitrary - that is, is selects the point I picked in space.  That is NEVER where I want it.

I want:

- Allow me to snap the cloud to a point in my layout

-Allow me to send it to 0,0,0 if I wish (99% of the time this is what I would want)

Status: Implemented
The 0,0,0 is implemented. the snap to point would not work as the snap in point is based on 0,0,0 in the point cloud.

Create additional views in Inventor

Status: New Idea
by Board Manager on ‎10-15-2012 07:21 AM

Many additional views are required for factory layouts, including side views, sectional views, etc. It would be nice if these views can be part of the normal workflow rather than workarounds to create them. Could this be solved by providing an option to switch the DWG in inventor from a wireframe to solids so that hidden lines are not shown?

The benefit of this requirement is that it is easier for customers to create all the documents required for a given project.

This requirement was gathered at the customer roundtable in Milan, Oct 2012.

Slanted floors and multi floor buildings

Status: New Idea
by Board Manager on ‎08-30-2012 04:54 PM

A customer at the 2011 Munich Summit suggested that depending on the industry, the floor will not be straight. Often customers have to plan in multi floor buildings. Today FDS has only one floor per assembly.

Autodesk Factory Design Suite

Status: Future Consideration
by dwerner on ‎01-22-2013 05:34 AM

The ultimate should include the REVIT family of products.  Looks like I will have to purchase the Building Design Suite to get more of the products I need and forgo the Factory Design Utilities since it can not be purchases out side of the suite.  It is to Costly to purchase the Factory design suite and then purchase the REVIT products along with it at $5,500 each ($15,000).

Status: Future Consideration
Thanks for the feedback. for this release, we had received customer feedback that was contrary to this, believe it or not. It was felt that it would make deployment of the suite more difficult across an enterprise. As the bulk of our customer cross section have the workflows split into two camps - ie those that design the building and those that design the layout - our direction in development has been toward supporting better interaction between the two disciplines. 2014 has embarked down this path by allowing Revit data to be incorporated into the layout environment. We will continue to improve and expand this workflow in future releases.

Ability to edit the generated 2D blocks Factory to create dynamic blocks, adding capabilities (visibility, scale, stretch, matrix, etc..)
I've tried to edit blocks and generated 2D Factory, not recognized back then updated Inventor from AutoCAD Architecture.
We're finding customers already asking us this feature, which would give infinite possibilities 2D/3D workflow.
