    New Idea
    3 Kudos

If one uses Factory Assets and Connectors to configure a new piece of equipment on a Factory Layout, it would be handy to publish this new equipment configuration as its own Factory Asset, from the Factory Layout environment.  This is similar to the idea of "Creating Assets using Assets".  Hope all is well and have a blessed day!

    Peace,

    Pete

    Asset Republish

    by steve.schuchard on ‎11-07-2012 10:45 AM

When Creating Assets, often I have to repeatedly republish the asset. It would be nice to have a Republish workflow that could do the following with one button:

    - publish to same folder

    - publish with the same asset name (to overwrite)

    - Set 2D View Options.

Also, if the asset has already been published, these setting should be remembered.

    Unite the UCS's

Why does the FDS layout have a different UCS than standard Inventor files? It makes for some frustrating moments when inserting non-asset part files. It's not that it causes problems, its just annoying!

Specify project build order in layout tools

    Status: New Idea

The user can specify in Inventor or AutoCAD the order that an asset is placed in a project. Factory Asset attributes can be used to specify the phase and/or order a given asset is commissioned. This information can be interpreted by Navisworks for the 4D / timeliner process.

    Point cloud insert workflows (scaling)

    Status: New Idea
    by Employee mike.jolicoeur on ‎10-17-2012 06:27 AM

Point clouds should know the scale of the document they are going into and attempt to scale accordingly.  Point clouds typically are meter by meter by meter for scaling size - if the point cloud goes into a layout that is in MM it should scale - or if it is into an inch layout it should scale to imperial - if nothing else, have it work similar to block inserts in AutoCAD for the interaction.  (see attached)  IT is very confusing for the users in imperial - typically the cloud comes in 254x too small.

    Point cloud insert (positioning)

    Status: Implemented
    by Employee mike.jolicoeur on ‎10-17-2012 06:29 AM

Today, when inserting a point cloud, the placement is arbitrary - that is, is selects the point I picked in space.  That is NEVER where I want it.

    I want:

    - Allow me to snap the cloud to a point in my layout

-Allow me to send it to 0,0,0 if I wish (99% of the time this is what I would want)

    Status: Implemented
The 0,0,0 is implemented. the snap to point would not work as the snap in point is based on 0,0,0 in the point cloud.

Default layer attribute for factory assets

    Status: Implemented
by Employee mcmahor on ‎11-02-2012 08:34 AM

Factory assets should have an attribute that allows the asset creator to specify what the default layer the asset should be assigned to when it is placed in a drawing. The benefit of this feature is time savings and repeatabiliyt of workflow.

This requirement was gathered at the customer roundtable in Milan, Oct 2012.

Layers supported in Inventor environment. The user can now set a layer, and any object placed will be on that layer. Users can also move objects to other layers.

The user should be able to find where assets have been used - in what documents. Users should be able to update those assets and have the drawings reflect the changes. Teh benefit of the feature would be that it saves a significant amount of time searching for where an asset was used and manually replacing them.

Currently, if you use the feature property suppression option, (see attached) the suppression is not recognized when setting various levels of detail. I use this property for turning Clearance areas on and off. When there are multiple pieces of equipment that have these clearances, we use a Level of Detail to turn them all off or on as needed. Currently you have to actually suppress the part to add it to the Level of Detail in the assembly.

Currently, the only way this can be achieved is, as you have documented, through an assembly. If I am understanding correctly, you would like a concept of an LOD on a multi body part - that would allow you to suppress the features you want suppressed.... is that correct?

    Double-sided link to Revit

I need updated link from *.iam to *.rvt file, with Axes and Levels support. I need possibility of using linked *.rvt geometry and axes via drawing creation.

IF I am not snapping to a DWG or to a grid - I ALWAYS want to move my asset immediately after placement.  I have to go and select reposition.  Why not just have the reposition triad be the placement triad?

    Disassemble capability in Inventor

Automotive customer requests the ability to easily suppress/delete all constraints for selected components.

We need to understand the motivation for wanting to do this. If it is just to drag the asset freely, there may be more elegant approaches (see US1091)

Flatten and Combine feature in ACAD

    Status: Solution Provided
by Employee mcmahor on ‎08-30-2012 04:38 PM

This is a productivity enhancement. Basically customers spend a lot of time exploding blocks down to geometry and then creating a single block. This request is to automatically:

    • Flatten all nested block refs down to geometry
    • Create a block of the resulting geometry, moving all geometry to a user specified layer optionally
    • Instancing the block back into the DWG
