When publishing FDS Assets, the dwg blocks created are set to allow explode in AutoCAD. Why not set them to NO so that the bi-directional work flow is not broken so easily by poor Acad practice. An experienced user can reset this function if needed in the block editor.

    Asset Republish

    Status: Under Review
    by steve.schuchard on ‎11-07-2012 10:45 AM

When Creating Assets, often I have to repeatedly republish the asset. It would be nice to have a Republish workflow that could do the following with one button:

    - publish to same folder

    - publish with the same asset name (to overwrite)

    - Set 2D View Options.

Also, if the asset has already been published, these setting should be remembered.

If one uses Factory Assets and Connectors to configure a new piece of equipment on a Factory Layout, it would be handy to publish this new equipment configuration as its own Factory Asset, from the Factory Layout environment.  This is similar to the idea of "Creating Assets using Assets".  Hope all is well and have a blessed day!

    Peace,

    Pete

Interesting idea!! I'll see what we can do with it.

The user should be able to find where assets have been used - in what documents. Users should be able to update those assets and have the drawings reflect the changes. Teh benefit of the feature would be that it saves a significant amount of time searching for where an asset was used and manually replacing them.

Default layer attribute for factory assets

    Status: Implemented
by Employee mcmahor on ‎11-02-2012 08:34 AM

Factory assets should have an attribute that allows the asset creator to specify what the default layer the asset should be assigned to when it is placed in a drawing. The benefit of this feature is time savings and repeatabiliyt of workflow.

Layers supported in Inventor environment. The user can now set a layer, and any object placed will be on that layer. Users can also move objects to other layers.

    Create Assets using Assets

    Status: Accepted
by Distinguished Contributor Light_Guy on ‎10-19-2012 07:47 AM

We have discovered that while trying to make an asset, there is no way to use an existing asset in the creation of another. Assets should be accessible when creating assemblies not just when creating a factory layout. Many times we need to have assemblies that contain standard assets but we still need to be able to change those assets once they have been inserted. Right now you get an error that says that part contains a factory layout and cannot be used to make an asset. (see attached) This is because the only way to see the asset was to create a layout to insert it into.

    Unite the UCS's

    Status: Under Review
by Distinguished Contributor Light_Guy on ‎12-17-2012 05:40 AM

Why does the FDS layout have a different UCS than standard Inventor files? It makes for some frustrating moments when inserting non-asset part files. It's not that it causes problems, its just annoying!

There are times when I want to find the asset of the same definition as the Object I am currently selecting.

If Asset broweser show the same asset automatically. I can know what asset is this very easy.

Hi, thanks for the idea. This does seem like something that would be very useful and would make the user experience better. We'll look into what would be needed to accomplish this.

    2D Asset Elevation

    Status: New Idea
    by steve.schuchard on ‎02-11-2013 12:33 PM

A common problem existis for all assets with regards to elevation.

When a assets is placed at a elevation other than 0 - (On the floor), the 2D Assets is placed at a elevation. When modified in AutoCAD, the elevation is often changed, impacting the 3D Asset elevation.

This would be helpful for Overhead Conveyor Layout especially. Anything

This would be a problem fixer.

This would also make asset authoring easier.

This could be implemented in a simiilar fashion as in the asset authoring field for landing plane offset.

I like the idea to do pictures from a machine in a factory who exist and send it to 123D Catch and use the mesh model in Inventor (Using Mesh-Enabler) to create a legacy object as an asset.

I never tried the 123D Catch with larger objects as one meter. Also I have errors when I download the mesh. But this will be a great workflow to catch legacy objects in a factory.

Regards to all the others who like this.

Watching users struggle trying to find how to turn these panels on....  adding some toggle buttons to the bottom of the Inventor UI (similar to AutoCAD, see attached) would help tremendously.

We need more properties added to the assets

    Status: Under Review
by beierf on ‎11-09-2012 04:18 AM

We must have the possibility to add more production information's to the assets. Then we can use them for simulation and optimization. Also this assets need to be used in the early stage of the process.

Workflow - define your stations include. all relevant properties - place them in your factory - do simulation/optimization - check locations of stations against the factory building - do optimization again.

Today the Process simulation has only icons - so no idea what it will be. If this process is final - you start again in ACA with the optimization (and you type in all the properties again).

Specify project build order in layout tools

    Status: New Idea
by Employee mcmahor on ‎02-10-2013 05:35 AM

The user can specify in Inventor or AutoCAD the order that an asset is placed in a project. Factory Asset attributes can be used to specify the phase and/or order a given asset is commissioned. This information can be interpreted by Navisworks for the 4D / timeliner process.

    Asset Chaining Graphics - Update

    Status: New Idea
    by steve.schuchard on ‎02-11-2013 12:41 PM

Problem: Asset Chain Graphics is only a polyline when first created and requries a round trip for update. The polyline graphics are not effective or desirebale by the user and therefore may not be used.

Idea: Have a update graphics button (right click on Asset?) that would roundtrip the polyline to generate the planview graphics.

    2D Asset Linetype Graphics

    Status: New Idea
    by steve.schuchard on ‎02-11-2013 12:51 PM

Problem: Some 2D Assets require linetypes to properly represent the 2D views which are often standard.

    Idea:

    1. Use the option for utilizing a sketch for AutoCAD Graphics.

    2. In the Inventor Sketch environment, specify simple linetypes.

Currently when perfroming this work, the linetypes are ignored.

    Adaptive mirror command

    Status: New Idea
by Distinguished Contributor Sereniance on ‎02-15-2013 01:10 AM

    Hello there,

i can´t quite place it yet but i would like to have the option to

have a mirrored object update as soon as the source for this

    object changes.

I´m doing shelves and until now i do a single lane and mirror it.

As soon as a value changes in the source object, i have to delete

the mirrorde one and do it aknew.

Would be a nifty little feature.

    Kind regards

    Tooltips for Factory Assets

    Status: New Idea
by Distinguished Contributor Sereniance on ‎02-14-2013 11:17 PM

    Hello there,

    a rather simple question.

can i deactivate the tooltips/quickinfo of the factory library.

It tends to block the libraries contents from view.

It would be nice if there was an option to turn them off.

    Thanks in advance

    Connector capability

    Status: New Idea
by Distinguished Contributor Sereniance on ‎02-15-2013 12:17 AM

    Hello there,

working with assets i encountered a problem.

When doin an array of Assets i noticed the fact

connectors do connect but fail to update when

the origiinating object of the array change.

I can bypass this by trying to move the object,

for it can´t be moved because it´s fixed but to

simply try to move it is enough to get Inventor

to update the asset to the object it´s connected

    to.

With very simple objects this is not necessary,

but with the objects i created this tends to happen.

Can this be fixed with an update? Seems like a

    minor change to me.

    Kind regards

    Daniel

    Lines in block

    Status: New Idea
    by jorgen.sb on ‎05-16-2013 03:30 AM

I want my lines in block to end up in the layer i choose in inventor, not only the block.I want to be able to separate layer for block and the lines inside block.

I always place block on layer 0 in Autocad and the lines inside block in the right layer for the best funktion.
