I have a request for an enhancement to the thin client in Vault Professional 2022. 2022 released a new thin client design and one of the thing that changed is the way it handles items controlling files. The requirement for some companies is to limit the users' access to files directly, only wanting them to access files through the items. In the old thin client design, we do accommodate this by configuring to only show released items and to only show released files. In this way, users could not see files directly (no lifecycle control is applied to the files themselves) but if you viewed a released item, you could view the attached files and could view the file itself. In the new design, if we only display released files, the item does not show any attachments (since files do not have direct lifecycle control). The only way to see files at all is to turn off 'only show released files', but this then makes files visible directly at the file level, and allows users to see the files at the current version, which could be a work in progress state of the item. It would be very beneficial to support the viewing of non-released files through the item attachment, as this would better support the viewing of files that are controlled by items.
