Force UDP on Upload to Vault

Status: Solution Provided
by Valued Mentor on ‎07-03-2014 06:36 AM

Unmapped UDP that are required, should have a form automatically available to users in all clients so that the UDPs can be populated when uploading.

For example, when adding a DWG to vault, and the Category requires UDPs for Project Number and Building Name, a form should appear in AutoCAD prior to upload to Vault.

Or, from the Web Client, upload a PDF, and the Category requires UDPs for Manager Name and Due Date, the web form includes the UDPs in the form prior to uploading the PDF.

Check In Comments Mandatory

Status: Solution Provided
by rangelillo on ‎04-28-2014 11:03 AM

Check in comments should be mandatory or at least an option that can be selected to require them.  RIght now you can check files in without comments.  This normally wouldnt be an issue unless you are utilizing Vault check in options for auto check in.  If you use auto check in and configure check in frquencey to never prompt it wont.  If comments were mandatory you can utilize the same feature click on close or check in and receive a pop up to enter a check in comment to proceed.

Inventor option in installation

Status: Solution Provided
by Distinguished Contributor wesbird on ‎04-23-2014 07:12 AM

it would be great to add a new option, Inventor AddIn in installation custom option. I'm in a FM firm I did not have anything to do with Inventor.

Status: Solution Provided
Wes, if you have Inventor installed prior to install the Vault client, the Inventor add-in is installed automatically. It will be listed in the Vault client's customization options. If you install Inventor after you install the Vault client, you can go to the Add/Remove programs, select the Vault client and hit the Change button, then select Add or Remove Features and add the Inventor add-in.

I'd like to see an addition to the Vault/File Status tab for a shortcut method to CHECK OUT INCLUDING ALL CHILDREN. Many times a day a have to go through the process of Vault/File Status/Options/Check Out Dialog/Settings/Include children and then the same again to turn the setting off.

Brendan, in Vault 2014 we have redesigned the Checkout dialog and it is much easier to perform what you are requesting with fewer clicks. When you upgrade to that release please give it a try and see if this addresses this request. If it doesn't update this idea and I will change the status.

I know that Vault has a drag and Drop for Excel, word and other files.  But no AutoCAD drawings.

I know that AutoCAD has to associate the drawings and locations of those drawings via Xrefs etc.

But if there is no associated drawings to the specific drawing you want to place inside Vault.  You should be able to support a Drag and Drop command for the drawing.

Eric, you can drag and drop AutoCAD files if you turn off the "Disable Check In of Design Files" option in the Vault Settings dialog.

In Vault Workgroup and Professional add a View only User account that does not have get permissions in the Vault client.

It could be called Document Viewer.

Why not have this user use the Thin Client in Read-Only mode for Vault Pro?

Custom Object Linking to Files

Status: Solution Provided
by Valued Contributor mark.cloyed on ‎01-20-2014 09:23 AM

Custom objects can have as their contents, a link to a file, but the file does not show a link back to a custom object.  It would be valuable to create a two-directional link between a file and a custom object, so that we can see both what files have been associated with a custom obect and at the file level, what custom objects have been associated to that file.  As an example, one client would like to create a custom object for each of their outside contractors.  When a contractor is sent a file for modification, we would like to create a link between that file and the contractor.  Now, we can go to the contractor and see what files they control,  but we cannot go to a file and see how many contractors have received that file.  This would be valuable to know.

Status: Solution Provided
This is already possible today. Here are the steps: 1. Select the file, 2. go to the Tab "Where Used" 3. Make sure the Filter for the custom object e,g. contractor is checked 4. Select Expand all as a results you will see the linked custom object in this case the linked contractors to the specific file
