It is easy to do copy design on CAD files and get new items and BOM, but some of our customers use vault to manage their design with no CAD models or with non-structured CAD files, so it is impossible to use copy design function on their files and promote new items and BOMs.
The only feasible way we found is to export items to a csv file, change the file manually in excel, and then import items with the modified csv file. But I don't think this is a good idea because it is very easy to make some mistake and it is not easy work.
We think a copy design function for items is needed here, it should just like the copy design function on files, we can choose the new item number for the copied item, choose which items to be reused, replaced, or copied as well, together with their attachments.
We also think a SaveCopyAs function for item is very useful in such situation, a new item will be created immediately with the same BOM stucture and same properties, then we can modify the new item as needed.
When after selecting 'No' to 'check out' document, its irritating to then again answer 'yes' to the question 'open document read-only'. If I select no to checkout, AutoCAD should just open the document read-only with no questions being asked regarding the read-only status.
I would like to see an option to reset the rev scheme to the same value as a brand new file, and to reset the revision history of that file on Copy Design.
Because of legacy data from Vault Basic with manually managed rev values, I have 2 different rev schemes and 2 properties to synchronise. 1 scheme for pre-manufacture (A, B, C, etc...) and 1 for released for manufacture (1, 2, 3, etc...). I have a situation where I have a released file at rev 2 that I copy design. As an example the IPT file changes to rev 1 but and the IDW file changes to A. I have a process that sometimes works to reset the rev and history. I change category of these 2 files to Base, then revise them to Null rev scheme, then change category to Engineering (default for Inventor files) which creates the rev value A. If I then work on that file and try to release it to the manufacture rev scheme (1, 2, 3, etc...) I can't get it to work properly. The IDW file will change to 1 but the IPT file changes to 2. And the previous rev history remains so when I place a rev block it contains all of the previous data.
I've come to the conclusion that it is often easier to just start with fresh files and re-model.
I would like to have the ability to set up a pre selected list of properties to edit for a specific object type in Vault Pro. For example, if I select a File and choose Edit Properties, the edit window would open with a specific list of editable properties. If I select, however, a Custom Object and choose Edit Properties the edit window would open with a different list of editable properties for that object type. Right now, the only way to do this is with the properties grid. I have to search through a massive list of system and user properties, highlight the ones I want and choose Edit Selected Properties. I have to do this for each individual object that I want to edit.
Going through an implementation of vault, the lack of the option for a multi-list as a property type is very limiting when it comes to integration.
This may be a limitation that stems from matching the capability of the authoring tools, but those could stand to be updated as well. Alternatively, there could be a translation that would take a comma separated list in a property or attribute into a multi-list property.
