We have some custom addons for Inventor and Vault. A lot of them used vault options for configuration, which seemed a good idea, as they can be centrally managed in Vault. However we noticed that for AVFS locations with longer latency this is a performance killer. Vault options are always queried from the remote ADMS, even if there is a local AVFS. We now replaced vault options by common XML files stored in Vault. The big advantage is, that in contrast to Vault options, these can be now read from the AVFS directly, making use of the file replication mechanisms. On this occasion my analysis of the web traffic shows that AutoCAD, Inventor and other Autodesk client software use Vault options, too, mostly for configuration. So my suggestion is to either establish a replication mechanism for Vault options or shift to (hidden) xml config files instead for standard Autodesk software.
