If there isn't already, Autodesk should create a design software tailored to commercial modular construction. Commercial modular construction projects range from multi-family (apartments & hotels), schools, office buildings, ect. The basic concept of modular construction is to factory build rectangular shaped modules (boxes) ranging in size from ~12' x 35' to ~16' x 76', then ship the modules to the project site and crane set them in place. The industry is beginning to rapidly grow and many hotels, apartments, and schools will be designed and built using modular construction this year and in the years to come. Modular construction is highly efficient due to building completely finished out rooms with walls, paint, appliances and even furniture while in a factory using an assembly line approach. The modular design process is more complicated and focusses highly on field installed cross-over connections between separate modules. A design software geared toward simplifying & improving design quality for this type of construction would be a game changer. A secondary aspect of the modular design process that could be improved is a module set sequence schedule & naming system for the modules. Each module needs a unique identifier and identical style modules need a name (goal is to minimize # of different types of modules in order to stream-line the design process). I'm sure other Autodesk products can be used for this, I'm just thinking more along the lines of a software tailored for the unique challenges of modular design that is relatively simple to use. This product would be used by Architects, Structural Engineers, MEP Engineers, and Factory design teams.
