Combining non simulated and simulated trees

Is there a way to have particles created in a non simulated tree taken over by a simulated tree and passed back to the non simulated tree ??

 

I don some motion graphicsy stuff and would love to be able to trigger gravity when needed and drive the particles directly when needed.
