Summasketch III Power Supply

Anyone know where I can get a replacement power supply
for my summasketch III at a reasonable cost? or maybe you
have one you need to get rid of ?:-) Online costs are a bit
spendy for just a power supply.

Hi Rick,

No I can't get a compatible power supply at RS
(no really, I've checked). As far as I can tell there
are two problems:

1. The tip on the plug is not the right size (RS had
ZERO! tips that fit)

2. The summasketech power supplies must be regulated
where most common power supplies are non-regulated
(talking with the local electronic supply company today)

I bought a 12 volt power supply at RS yesterday and
hacked the tip off my old power supply and rewired.
It puts out 12 volts and all of that (polarity is correct, etc)
but since it is non-regulated the cursor jumps all over
the place on the screen. It's like a pointer on crack 😉

Found several online. Looks like the cheapest I can
get one for is $55 + shipping. Some folks wanted $75
to $100 so I guess $55 is a "deal".

$55 ? Ouch!
I'd offer one of my old Calcomp power supplies but I'm pretty sure I've used
a universal RS power supply with these boards in the past so it's probably
not applicable

Jason, can you post a pic and the specs? I have a Summasketch II and use to
have a few III (that I think I thru away). I still have a shelf full of
power supplies that you're welcome to have if one matches up.

Awesome!

The model number on the one I have at home is

62-1020-501

However, the power supply I have here at work
the part number is 62-1020-501 and the model
number is R3W012-200 made by Sino-American

Both are 12 volt DC at 200mah.

I can post the pics later if you need them. Don't
have a digital camera handy at the moment.

Snapshots of the power supplies attached.

Also, if you haven't tossed the III's out I'd
be interested in them, assuming they work
of course.

If you can't find something, I have a way-out-there solution. If you have a local tech college or university that has electronics courses, pop in and see if one of the students will build a regulator for you. Its fairly straightforward (one of the first things taught to students once they start assembling hardware), and total parts cost is around $20 assuming you provide the commercial AC/DC system.

We've probably got a UPS number, but I don't
know what it is and the one who does won't be
back in the office until next week.

I'm game for whatever works for you.

Thanks.

Jason,

I'm still interested in what you've got.

Not sure but I didn't see them. They may be in the attic here. If I get a
chance I'll go look for them. If I find them there yours also. I have no
need for them nor do I ever want to have a need for them.
