I am an engineering student at a major university and just purchased a laptop that I had hoped would be sufficient to complete my Autocad homework. After installing Autocad 2011, it is locking up and crashing. My graphics card is a Nvidia Geforce GT 420M (other system specs include intel i5 processor and 8gig RAM). After a search I noticed that the card isn't even listed on Autodesk's site. Is this the reason for my crashes, and does anyone know of any updates to correct this? Thanks!

Maybe, but not likely. At what point does it crash? Have you tried updating the drivers? What antivirus are you using?
What autocad program are you using? Plain acad? C3d? MEP? Revit? Inventor? Maya?

I'm just using regular acad. It normally becomes unresponsive about 30 secs into a drawing. I have not tried updating drivers yet, feel kind of stupid for not trying that. Hopefully that's that problem. Running Norton seceurity suite as anti-virus. Cable company provides it for free.
edit: All drivers are and were up to date, still locking up
Dump norton. There are many free options out there. Norton probably isn't the sole cause of your problems but I have seen issues for years using Norton with cad software. Software that we use that starts up in the blink of an eye on other systems can take 15 seconds to start with Norton even when all of the software's directories are on the exclusion list.
Even if you don't dump Norton. Check their page for fixed dealing with autocad. Had a similar post in another group and he found the fix on the Norton site.

I have the same problem as you. and my laptop has the same specifications.
Can you please tell me if you figured out anything?
Make sure you are not using the manufacturer supplied video driver or one from Microsoft Update. Go to www.nvidia.com and download the latest WHQL driver for your video card.
I have a Dell xps 17 laptop, i7, 8 gb w/nvidia ge force 500. The computer also has an intel graphics chip which keeps crashing in autocad. I know many have had the same issue. Has there been any resolution? Are there any laptops that don't crash? help???!!!
