Interoperability between Revit & GBS using IFC & gbXML data models

Interoperability between Revit & GBS using IFC & gbXML data models;  Is it a seamless flow of data or is there loss of data ?
Which data model better transfers the thermal & geometrical information required for accurate energy simulation through GBS?

Hi,

Green Building Studio can read any valid gbXML file, whether from Revit or any other comparable BIM toolsThe gbXML file contains all of the heating and cooling information for a project according to the gbXML file structure which is based on a gbXML schema. The gbXML schema was created to help building designers get information about the energy consumption characteristics of their building projects. Refer to gbXML Schema Support for more information about gbXML elements and attributes that are supported by Revit.

you can find the detail about gbXML schema at http://www.gbxml.org/.

Thank you for the clarificication,
The transfer of data through gbXML is very clear now but I still couldn't find resources about GBS import capability of IFC files.
Could you guide me to an IFC schema support for GBS?

Hi,

GBS does not support IFC format. If you have your file in Revit, you should just export to gbXML instead.  If you have your model in another tool and you cannot directly export to gbXML from that third part tool , you could try importing into Revit and then exporting to gbXML, but I wouldn’t recommend that as a trustable process.
