Product Update now scheduled for March 14th

We want this update to go off without a hitch. So, we have decided to take another week. We have scheduled the next maintenance window/product update to go live on March 14th, 2015. Maintenance on our side will begin 6 A.M PST and will conclude around midnight. We had previously planned for this update to go live this weekend, but with such a major change in our system infrastructure (WIP DM), an extra week of checks will help us make sure everything transitions smoothly.

So how does this benefit you?

The one week extension will bring a number of important improvements to this coming update:

  • Data Management - Right after you get the update, you should be able to notice that your overall data management experience should be faster and smoother. Everything else should remain the same.
  • Part Library access – We’ve been working on this behind the scenes with your feedback and guidance, we decided in taking an extra week we were able to implement this and give you the ability to access popular standard part catalog from McMaster-Carr through Fusion 360. This allows you to insert parts directly from the catalog into your designs.
  • Mac Gestures improvements – We’ve heard lots of feedback from the community and have made fixes and significant improvements to the gesture experience.

Here's a quick video of what the McMaster-Carr access through Fusion 360 would look like.

Thank you all for your patience and continued support. This is going to a be great update, and we’re very excited to get it out to you guys.

kequing,

Might I suggest that Autodesk throw up the headline banner (that normally shows just prior to maintenance) a little earlier - like today! It might be a rude surprise for some to find out tomorrow afternoon that Fusion on-line will be shut down for some 18hrs or so on Saturday.

UPDATE:

The teams have been working tirelessly to make sure this next update happens as smoothly as possible and that we don't have a repeat of the hicup we had during the last update. During our preperations and risk assessments, we've found a couple important issues that need to be fixed prior to the update, thus we've decided to push the maintenance window to this Saturday, March 7th, 2015. The duration will remain the same: from 6 A.M. PST to around Midnight, PST, March 8th, 2015. Thanks for your patience and awesome support!

That is fair, but many fasteners are standard. Hopefully they are also introducing a client side STEP import because that is necessary for what they are doing and if they do it will solve a lot of your problems with importing too. 🙂

Most of their business model is built around their unique relationship with UPS in the United States. I suspect they don't feel that they can provide the same service internationally.

I noticed there was an update to our program yesterday. What had been improved?

Kingson,

Apparently there were many problems during the last major update with users being unable to work offline. Supposedly the update from last night addressed those problems so users would be able to work offline during the lengthy update due this weekend - now changed to the following weekend (3/14).

The most recent update was so if you open Fusion while the maintenace is going on it will automatically go to offline mode.  This was to fix a bug that would not allow Fusion to go to offline mode if opened while the cloud was down.  I may have it a little wrong but that is the gist of it.

A two week delay in such an important update is not big deal.  The fact that it is only a two week delay is surpising to me!   I jumped ship from Alibre/GeoMagice because they were so slow in fixing anything.  Basic neccessitities took years to get fixed if in fact they ever got fixed.  Also they were very tight lipped about anything going on expecially after 3DSystems bought Alibre.

So take all the time you need to get it right.   Two weeks is like a blink of the eye in software development time frames.

Keep up the great developments and communication.
