Just installed Fusion 360 and I can't see anything.

I just installed the program, it gave me a warning that my graphics card might not be up to the task of running everything, so I clicked the graphics diagnostis and checked the limit all effects to provide optimum performance box.  After that the entire screen is gray, I was able to perform the first tutorial(lamp base) with the screen all gray.  Objects only show up when I have the mouse over the object.  I tried uninstalling and reinstalling once already, as well as logging out and back in.

Thanks in advance

In the menu on the top right hand side, under you name, select Preferences.  Then in preferences, switch your graphics from DX 11 to DX 9.  Close the application and restart.  This should fix the problem.

After making the change, you closed Fusion 360 and then relaunched it,  correct?

I tried it again, and instead of reopening the previous drawing i started it from scratch.  so I click create>cylinder>go to place the cylinder on the screen and i can see the grid in the center of the screen and it quickly fades into gray towards the edges.  Once i draw the cylinder everything turns to gray and features of the cylinder are only visible as I scroll over them.

Usually switching to DX 9 solves this problem.  Since it is not solving it, I have asked someone from our graphics team to look at this post.  You may not hear from them for another 8-10 hours.  Sorry for the delay.  Thanks for trying Fusion 360.

Hi,

Can you please let us know your graphics card configuration(GPU and its hardware driver version)? You can get this info in Computer->Device manager->Display Adapters->Driver. If your graphics card driver is too old (e.g., more than 3 years ago), then it is likely you could run into this kind of display issues(we once observed similar issues on some old Intel graphics card drivers). Please try to download/install the latest graphics card driver from your GPU vendor website.

Thanks

You should go to the Intel website and download the latest graphics card driver there. If you tried to upgrade the driver through Windows Device manager dialog, Windows OS would simply tell you the driver is already latest, which is not true.

Thanks

Thanks for the help, all seems to be working properly now.  I am having another issue with the data panel not opening since updating the graphics driver, but I'm guessing that is unrelated.  I will work on that today, but at least I can get through the tutorials now.

Since updating the software I now have the same issue. I have tried the steps suggested but the problem persists.

Mobile Intel(R) 965 Express Chipset Family

driver ver; 8.15.10.1930

Any suggestion?

@Anonymous did your data panel issue ever go away?

Since you mentioned uninstalling and re-installing earlier in the post I must make the following statement for all Fusion users: uninstalling should almost never ever be done to solve problems. Most of the time it causes more problems because people do not perform a full uninstall, which requires manually deleting folders. If you uninstalled and re-installed and are now experiencing new problems you need to perform a full-uninstall to remove the old folders. The instructions are in the sticky read-me post on this board.

Another helpful hint, the Graphics Diagnostic tool has a copy to clipboard button. It's helpful to post this information into graphics problem posts like this.

From what I can see it looks like you all have old computers without dedicated graphics cards. This generally means you are trying to run Fusion with far too little graphics memory using a chipset GPU such as the Intel model mentioned. This may cause problems.

Here are some general tips for GPU issues:

  1. Use the Graphics Diagnostic tool (under the ? Help menu) and click the option to limit all effects.
  2. Do not use more than one monitor. Double pixels means double work for your GPU.
  3. Do not use 3D connexion/spacemouse devices.
  4. Windows: Use Preferences > Graphics Driver and switch to DX9 or DX11.

The driver is very old. It is about 6 years ago. Have you checked on Intel website to see if there is any new GPU driver available? If not, I would strongly suggest you do it. Check out this link:

Thanks for your suggestions.

The driver is the latest version and the Fusion settings are as recommended for this kind of issue.

I understand that this is an older laptop and that it is not ideal but it was working (just), prior to updating Fusion. Hence the question.
