Fusion 360 system requirements

Hi Folks,

I'm currently designing and building a PC Workstation from the ground up. My first requirement is for video and still imaging and I think I've captured those issues. However I would also like to know what the system requirements are for Fusion 360 and have the following questions please:

  1. Does F360 make full use of all processor cores available to it, including hyper threading i.e. the more cores that better ?
  2. Is Nvidia's Cuda core acceleration of benefit i.e. does F360 make full use of the GPU's bandwidth and processing power.
  3. Will all material and texture rendering take place on the Autodesk Servers i.e. not on the local PC. I guess this is an extension of Q2 above.

Incidentally I’m using Fusion 360 to design a 3D replication of the Workstation so that I can visualise how all the bits, pipes etc. fit together. It’s proving very beneficial Smiley Very Happy

The Workstation is for non-commercial personal use. Hence my use of the ‘enthusiast’ free version of F360 but I'm seriously considering purchasing when my 12 month free period comes to a close.

Kindest Regards,

Hi,

Fusion does make full use of all CPU processor cores to accelerate some of its heavy operations, e.g., opening the large assembly file, mesh faceting and graphics/ray tracing rendering. Fusion also uses GPU to accelerate its interactive viewport graphics rendering, through the 3D graphics APIs(DirectX and OpenGL). For now, Fusion supports three rendering modes:

1. Interactive GPU viewport rendering;

2. Local CPU ray tracing rendering; as mentioned above, it will use all available CPU cores to accelerate its rendering.

3. Cloud ray tracing rendering(take place on servers); in our next release, we will incorporate the cloud rendering more tightly in the Fusion render workspace.

Thanks

Hello,

I am looking now to purchase a new laptop in order to be able to run Fusion 360.  My current laptop is a few years old and a bit too outdated.  Can you please advise what the minimum requirements would be which would allow me to operate fairly comfortabley in F360?  I would be considered a beginner in F360.  Im looking at this laptop - will this be enough?

15.6" Touch-Screen Laptop - Intel Core i5 - 8GB Memory - 1TB Hard Drive

A collegue mentioned that he thought I needed an i7 intel processor but I can't find anything to confirm that.  Please advise if you can.

Hi,

As mentioned in my previous post, Fusion makes full use of all CPU processor cores to accelerate some of its heavy operations, so I would suggest that you get a processor with more CPU cores if possible. Besides, having a discrete GPU is surely better than an integrated GPU, especially if you have a high resolution monitor.

Thanks
