Configurations coming soon ?

Looking at the roadmap posted here http://forums.autodesk.com/t5/design-differently/fusion-360-and-fusion-360-ultimate-roadmap-into-nex... does not include Configurations.
So the question is, when can we expect to see them ?

Design branching is coming which may fit some of your needs. Could you elaborate a little more on the exact functionality you're hoping to see?

If you haven't found this suggestion in the IdeaStation, it may be a good idea to go ahead and add it!

Thanks,

What I am looking for and what can be found on the Fusion 360 pricing page in the feature comparison table in the "Management" section called  "Design variant configuration management".

Presumably that's a functionality thats similar to "Configurations" in Solid Works or Geomagic Design.

From a functionality standpoint it can be relatively simple. For a design the stud shown in the image may be used two or three times in a design, each time some of its features shared in all three different variants but the main dimensions are the same. E.g. right now the bottom horizontal hole stops half way. I need a variant with a through hole. I may need another variant where the rotational position of the keys and slot on the bottom of the part is different.

If that is called Design Branching now thats fine 😉

I am still expecting an anwser to my original question and the functionality I expect resulting from the terminology on the F360 Fusion Ultimate pricing page.

The original web page that was in place when I paid my dues used this terminology: "configuration management", which is what that functionality is called in Solid Works and Alibre/Geomagic Design. The wording used now is "Design Variations with Branching and Merging*"

While that sounds promising I've not been able to find  more in the idea station in my brief search.

Whatever that functionality is called, it is one of the features that define the difference between F360 and F360 Ultimate and is one of the reasons why I decided not to go with the Startup version.

paying customer in search of a paid for feature that is refered to on that pricing page as "coming soon"  should not have to dig for answer. Please 🙂

The road map link from my first post estimates that an April release will contain the branching update. I know you will be able to split off from one design and explore other design options and Restore or reuse any design(s) in your project from any point in your project.

Have you seen this blog post? It may shed more light on the subject.

You may consider replying to the blog post with the more specific questions if you still have some.

I hope that helps to answer some of your questions.

Kind Regards,

I had not seen that blog entry. I was too busy making screencasts reporting bugs (insert devilish grin here).

OK. Sorry, that was below the belt line 😉

It looks very promising and in general aside from some bugs and limitations, which I am sure will be ironed out over the next few month, F360 is really fun to work with!

Any updates for configurations in Fusion?

I will take any news, rumors or the like about native or add-on solutions.

I can see that Fusion is really pushing boundaries in collaboration, product development and generative design but aren’t configurations being forgotten about?

I've had a number of conversations and two Zoom conferences with the responsible PM at Autodesk.
They are definitely working on this, but it is a pretty massive project requiring some changes in the existing software architecture to fully take advantage of configurations.

As such it isn't a fast process, but it is definitely in process. My guess is that we might see something this year.
